I drove my 2010 hard, worked 2 jobs out of that car :racing2:

6 months ago traded my 2010 Soul in w/ 192,000 miles

Everything was still working fine, got $5500.00 for trade

I have 10,000 miles in 6 months on my 2017 Turbo !

Souls seem to be as good as it can get for maintenance & reliability . . . .

That's good to know! But I figured this car would make it to 200k easy.

Hyundai & KIA make some tough engines and cars. This guy shows his Elantra at 200,000. I don't see why the Soul would be any different.

For my entire adult life, I've been involved in maintaining electro/mechanical devices, from household appliances to computers to cars, trucks, etc. With the proper care and lubrication, almost any machine can be made to run virtually forever.

I love going to the Big Steam Shows, like the "Old Threshers Reunion" in MtPleasant, Ia.* and see huge steam engines, over a hundred years old, running like they were brand new. How? Well, with lots of love! (TLC)

I have a stand fan, that I've been using now for over five years, that a neighbor threw on the junk pile because it would no longer run. It's little bronze bushings were dry and seized up. I got it running again and I use my drain oil from 'Ivanka' to lubricate it once a year. it still runs like new!

I just recently refurbished a little Eureka Vac. Cleaner that is 50 years old. With a new main Ball-Bearing and some TLC, it too is running like new again. I also added a new 8' long hose, and it's now more useful than it ever was when new.

Long life for any mechanism all comes down to just one word...."Maintenance".

With proper Maintenance, the Kia Soul should easily go 200,000 miles. I'll never live long enough to see mine do that, but I'm sure that someone will.

According my my Kia Service Manager, "every Kia in the state of Florida, should be maintained under the Severe Service schedule". There are many factors involved, but mainly it's because of the super-fine Florida Sugar Sand, that just gets into everything.

Happy Trails to you......

Well... not all miles are equal. Highway miles in my book are worth 1/4-1/3 of the stop-and-go city traffic for the transmission and engine.
Driving in high 90's ambient also doesn't compare with driving in 70's (this applies to rubber and plastic components). 200k miles on nice (cooler) weather and highway constant speed equals only 50-70k miles in traffic that averages 15mph (summer in 98-100F outside temps) for an hour, daily.

Also, helps a lot keeping up with the maintenance like changing the engine oil as recommended by factory and even the transmission fluid (here I always like to err on caution side and use the "Severe Schedule") every 60k miles. Coolant at 60k miles. Timing belt can mean a catastrophic engine failure - the manual says 90k miles for normal use and 60k for severe, I will probably be doing it closer to 60k. Not there yet...

Boy, I wish I could afford to drive mine 200k!
But, that would be 100k beyond the end of the warranty. Yoiks!

I'll trade mine off before then.....but to insure that mine is still running great, up till I decide to trade it off for a new one, I'm just going to give it lots and lots of TLC. She's my BABY!

The Soul like many cars today, is very High Tech. That's good in some ways, but it also means there is a lot of little things that can go wrong.
Most of the complaints we read here or on any car forum, are not engine failures or wheels falling off, , , NO, it's the little gadgets and gizmo's that people think they can't live without.
I personally feel like the Kia Soul is as good as any other new car on the highways today, but more fun than most. :)
Keeping and maintaining, and repairing my 92 VW over the years has saved me a lot. It has barely 200k on it, and is cheap to fix. I imagine as long as you buy a basic Soul, the doo dads should be fine beyond 200k. I plan to keep my new Base Soul for a minimum 15 years or more, then give it my my now 3 yr old boy of he wishes to own a car. Cars cost a lot to buy new, the Soul will be close to 14 grand. I don't think it will ever need 14 grand in repairs? If the 1.6 dies, I will just have it rebuilt or seek a cheap low mileage unit in 15 years :)

I agree with you with the following caveat: The item must be well designed and well built. Junk new=short lifespan. Kias certainly remind me of the Old Chryslers (up to about 1985 or so). Well designed and engineered. Run forever with proper care. I guess that is one thing that drew me to Kia in addition to what is not a reasonable price for a car

192k miles on it and you still got $5,500? Base, +, or ! trim? Was this at a dealership or third party deal?

That's a lot more money than I would expect.. my 2013 base 6 speed auto with 50,000 miles is worth between 5700 and 6600 according to KBB

Dealer deal, I figured my Soul + in titanium was worth about 4K & was prepared to buy a new soul without trading in mine & asking 5k & taking 4K on the private market. Of course dealer offer an offer of 2k @ 1st. after another hr with the sales team they got it up to 3500. That was fair for me but it was 8pm & I wanted to come back in morning & refused to sign that night. 10 feet from my car they chase me down & tell me the are calling the GM for a 5500 trade approval, I'm like 2k more to sign now instead of 12 hrs from now. I waited again for 15 minutes, for this final step of the game, when they got approval & we finalized all the other numbers I signed that night, took delivery next day
So yes, $ 5500.00 for a Soul + w/ 193K titanium w worn tires, crack windshield, 2 body infractions & driver seat worn to the steel frame

Highway miles count as 1/4 of city stop and go traffic. 200k miles droven at constant 2000 rpm, constant speed, constant airflow over radiator and cool transmission that is practically stuck in the least gear... That's not something to be amazed of.
