Hey if you guys have any question regarding cost on a windshield and or other glass on your soul.. I can help, I work in a glass shop doing installation and paperwork, Of course prices are different everywhere you gou, but i can give you a good roundabout price! ;)

That'll come in handy at SOME point. Not sure what's up with Soul's windscreen. I now have more little tiny nics in it than my 2001 Sportage. I hope Wawanesa will allow me to go take it to some aftermarket glass when something happens to it. I don't want whatever treehugger thing Kia is now doing with their glass that makes it chip real easy.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrr

Don't talk to me about US windshields!

I had the absolute misfortune to rent a car in Arizona (at the airport) from the low down bunch of scumbags Payless(more)

A Dodge Charger....I thought it was going to be good (It wasn't) - wanted a Mustang (didn't have one),,,,,,,,,,,anyway,

After paying an extortionate price for their 'top - cover everything - insurance' I drove off....

A day later a stone flew up on and put a small hole in the windshield.... bummer

When I dropped off the car, not topped up with gas! and guess what, no petrol station anywhere near the airport... I handed the car over and like the honest person I am, told them about the hole.

'No problem', said the guy ... 'your insurance covers it.... sign here and BTW hand over your cash to pay for the $10/gal gas we are gonna put in.'... bummer.... rip-off bummer too!

Anyway about a month later I got a letter from a debt recovery agency saying they wanted about $400 from me.... This was to cover the new screen + a day in lost earnings for the car + $50 admin!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They had highlighted the Paymore small print in the insurance copy they sent me and, they were right! No screen cover... Thay had me 'banged to rights'

TBH as I wanted to visit the US again I paid up as I didn't want a 'record' ...... however I felt totally ripped off as a foreigner and it really put a downer on the trip.

Next time in the US I will hire the cheapest scummiest car I can get and will ask re shield cover AND wont believe a bloody word they say untill I have read ALL the small print.

BTW - In the UK shields are covered on the excess for about $50.............I assumed this would be that same... HA HA

BTW2 - I went snowboarding in Slovakia earlier this year and asked re shield cover.... 'Why are you asking this?' said the guy 'Of course you are covered'

Perhaps it's only USA/AZ that take this approach....

Sorry to vent

oh wow, good timeing. A rock just flew up and cracked my windshield yesterday night.=/

FYI...as I've got 4 chips and a crack that runs the width of the windshield about 4" from the bottom, I inquired about replacement from the dealer (you better sit down)...$661 CDN just for the glass!

Yeah.... American car rental companies suck. When my wife and I spent a few weeks in Europe, we were amazed at how cheap cars were to rent over there, and what great service they give with the insurance and stuff. blows my mind.

So what kind of price should I be expecting to pay for a new windshield:( I ended up getting a rock chip just below the windshield wiper that I couldn't see n it ended up cracking up and across the whole width of the glass! Bummer

Windscreen Replacement

I'm finally getting around to changing out my windscreen after driving it for almost a year now with a crack all the way across about 4" from the bottom. Laziness came back to haunt me as I didn't get a chip fixed within 24 hours because the next morning about the same spot on the freeway the chip split both ways all the way across.

Today I called the collision center at the dealership where I purchased my Soul a little over a year ago. They informed me there was no aftermarket glass on the market yet and it would cost $543.08.

I had a hard time believing that so I called Safelite and they quoted me at less than half the price at $248.21.

Make sure and check around for pricing so you don't get ripped off!

Very good point! Just make sure you're getting the same quality. There are some companies out there which make a thin product with lots of imperfections you can see if you just scan through the windshield holding your eyes steady. Those aren't a bargain even if they're cheap -- especially considering that the windshield is an important part of rollover protection on today's cars.

My glass insurance is 16.00 a year with state farm
covers All glass including headlights, and it pay's for chip repairs too....
I can use any company, including the dealer
this extra coverage is a No Brainer !!

:D

What does a new windshield cost? Mine has three bullseye cracks and millions of tiny specks so rather than pay $120.00 to fix each crack through safelite Id rather invest in a better quality windshield. My old car (02 Chevy Monte Carlo LS) had less windshield damage and it had 158,000miles on it! My 12 Soul base has abo 43,000 miles so far. grrr LOVE my Soul though!

If you had insured your car in Florida, you only need to call the windshield replacement guys and have a new one installed. Give them your Insurance Acc. Number and it's all billed to the car insurance. That's the LAW in Florida....Your car insurance MUST pay for windshield replacement.

I had a chipped and cracking windshield on my last car. All it took was one phone call, and the repairman came right here to my house and replaced my windshield. In less than an hour, the job was done and I had a brand new windshield. It don't get much better'n that!

That may also be the law in your state...... check it out!

Just a binding point:

It really helps if you have a good insurance agent, that you can just walk into their office, sit down with them and chat about your insurance, to make sure you have the best insurance for your needs and what you can afford.

I've had the same (independent) insurance agent for at least 13 years. And whenever I can benefit from a change of some kind, she calls me and tells me about it. I've saved a lot of money over the years by having a good relationship with my agent.

My Allstate car insurance went down by 1/3 when I traded my Suzuki SX4, for my Kia Soul. I found out it's because the Soul is such a SAFE car. I'm certainly down with that!

But no matter what car insurance I have, I can still get a new windshield if mine gets cracked.
It's the LAW!
Whether it's OEM or aftermarket, I don't really care as long as it keeps the bugs from hitting me in the face.

I rode my BMW 500 Motor Cycle all over Europe, without a windshield.*
Old joke: "you can always tell a happy motorcyclist, by the bugs on his teeth".
* But, I did have a full face shield on my helmet.

Cheers Mates!

So true. My mother started and owned an agency with 3 branches for the past 20yrs until she retired and sold the business to one of her long time employees. With the advent of the internet and everyone chasing a dollar, people are so willing to give up their agent to save $15 a quarter on insurance. They end up with losing the person that is on their side when they need someone.

Insurance is one thing I will never buy over the internet. I am still with my mothers former agency and, coincidentally, with the same carrier, a local carrier out of South Dakota. It's been 20+ years now.

good points........you could also same the same thing about travel agents. I find out lots of info on the internet, but for major traveling and bookings I use my travel agent, they have access to things I can't and get more savings and they do all the leg work, saves me money and have better guarantees if something happens and doesn't cost me any extra. I use to think if I did everything myself I would save money, but its not always the case. :D

I use Allstate and since I still have a car loan, I have to get full coverage per Allstates rules.

I pay $351 every 6 months just for my Kia. Don't have any points on my record, no crashes in the last 15 years, no comprehensive claims in the past 8 years. My collision deductible is $500 which is a little higher than I like but it's saving me a lot of money. Comprehensive deductible is $100. So if my windshield needs replaced i'll have to pay $100 for it.

My wifes ford focus is paid off so I have state minimum coverage on hers. $153 every 6 months for her car.

Welcome. A few things: you may wish to do an intro thread and tell us about your ride in the new member forum. Second, this is the gen 1 forum, not gen 2; so if you have a 2014 or later the info may not be accurate for a gen 2, and thirdly, this is a two year old thread so there may not be anyone watching it. Some folks do not keep up with all the threads that often. Good luck.

Check your insurance policy first !
Some states force insurance companys to have mandatory glass coverage

BTW : I have had 3 NEW windshields installed & about to call for another replacement
BTW : No out of pocket ( insurance ) & got paid $ 100.00 each time

Hi. I’m a old lady with a 2015 Kia Soul and I need my windshield replaced. Don’t know much about it. I have no problem dealing with price but I know nothing about proper glass quality. They see me coming. What kind of glass should I need. I need to look like I know stuff. Thanks.
