Grrrrrrrrrrrrr
Don't talk to me about US windshields!
I had the absolute misfortune to rent a car in Arizona (at the airport) from the low down bunch of scumbags Payless(more)
A Dodge Charger....I thought it was going to be good (It wasn't) - wanted a Mustang (didn't have one),,,,,,,,,,,anyway,
After paying an extortionate price for their 'top - cover everything - insurance' I drove off....
A day later a stone flew up on and put a small hole in the windshield.... bummer
When I dropped off the car, not topped up with gas! and guess what, no petrol station anywhere near the airport... I handed the car over and like the honest person I am, told them about the hole.
'No problem', said the guy ... 'your insurance covers it.... sign here and BTW hand over your cash to pay for the $10/gal gas we are gonna put in.'... bummer.... rip-off bummer too!
Anyway about a month later I got a letter from a debt recovery agency saying they wanted about $400 from me.... This was to cover the new screen + a day in lost earnings for the car + $50 admin!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They had highlighted the Paymore small print in the insurance copy they sent me and, they were right! No screen cover... Thay had me 'banged to rights'
TBH as I wanted to visit the US again I paid up as I didn't want a 'record' ...... however I felt totally ripped off as a foreigner and it really put a downer on the trip.
Next time in the US I will hire the cheapest scummiest car I can get and will ask re shield cover AND wont believe a bloody word they say untill I have read ALL the small print.
BTW - In the UK shields are covered on the excess for about $50.............I assumed this would be that same... HA HA
BTW2 - I went snowboarding in Slovakia earlier this year and asked re shield cover.... 'Why are you asking this?' said the guy 'Of course you are covered'
Perhaps it's only USA/AZ that take this approach....
Sorry to vent
