OK people here's the deal. My 2012! with 2.0, 170K miles and manual trans runs great and starts every time. During my 70 mile commute the battery light will flicker a couple of times. It usually happens after warm up just flickers a couple of times and then stays off for the remainder of the trip. Checked voltage at battery terminals. 12.9 engine off 14.3 engine on. Cleaned the cables and posts just because. Recently had a/c compressor changed by local garage (so I checked wires and plug on alt. just in case the tech touched them...they were fine). Then a week later #2 coil took a crap. I replaced all coils and plugs. Then about three days later battery light issue shows up. Like I said car runs fine. Obviously the battery is ok and charging so I'll just keep driving it. I just hope one of you guys don't tell me that this means my flux capacitor is about to explode. My guess: a wire that communicates battery voltage to ECU/gauge cluster is loose/broken. Any thoughts? Oh yeah, didn't happen today for the first time in two weeks-just joining this forum fixed my car THANKS!

How old is the battery CB?

I would be interested to know it's CCA? Also what are the readings if it were to sit 2 or 3 days, does it have the ability to maintain the 12.9-14.3?

How about those battery terminals, are they clean and secured tightly?

Cheers and great to see you on the forum!

Wow... I’ve got the exact same thing going on with my battery light flickering periodically as well on my 2012 2.0L At 176K miles. Same voltage readings as well. Keep me posted as to what the actual cause is. I also had a bad coil code intermittently and replaced all 4 coils about 2 months before this battery light issue started.

CB, let's hope it's not a loose wire to the ECU - that would make the flux capacitor explode. "(
I would suggest replacing both the battery and the alternator at the same time.
If it's an old battery it's been overworking the alternator. If it's a weak alternator it's been undercharging the battery. The questions about battery age, CCA, state of charge after 2-3 days would reveal more about the battery condition. Also a load test, preferably out of the car on a machine.
When you're driving and the light flickers what accessories are on? headlights, tail lights, turn signals, brake lights, stereo, blower motor (1-4?) A/C, defrost, something 12v outlet?

Mine seems to flicker for a split second just one flicker on and immediately off around 45 MPH while accelerating to get on the interstate. I am thinking maybe a alternator pickup brush is worn and maybe needs replacing. I am about to replace my starter this week though which has been wishy washy if the car wants to start/crank. I am sure it's not related. Car starts right up 95% of the time and battery is brand new.

2016 Kia soul 1.6L battery light flickering while driving.

Walmart battery for Kia is 60AH 600CCA this particular brand design for KIA. Do not use any other battery other than this recommendation, if you use anything higher than 60AH or 600CCA it will send the signal to the computer to let the computer trigger a warning light. The same thing for the alternator you must use Valeo brand is originally made for KIA. the link below you can get it from Amazon.
Amazon.com: Valeo 443252 New Premium Alternator Replacement for Kia Soul (2012-2016): Automotive

Before you replace the battery disconnect the positive and negative battery cable for 5-10 minutes so the computer resets the error code internally. Then install the new battery. Restart battery test drive for a few mileages you will notice the battery charge light will not stay on and off. But if you do see the flicking charge lamp come and goes blink in and out then go away. If you continue to see a blinking light comes and goes fast. That means you need to check your alternator. Kia alternator output 110A does not use anything higher than the spec or you will see the charge lamp stay lit is mean the charging systems malfunction overcharging.

If your vehicle more than 5 years I would change out both the battery and alternator at the same time. Battery spec and alternator have been program value spec to the computer if any voltage or current over or under it will lit up the charge light. I hope this thread will help you to resolve your charging light issued. Goodluck
