Got to sit at the dealer for four hours for them to come back and tell me exactly what I told them when I first got there, which is my driver side brake light has a faulty wire(red one) and or short in said wire. They are replacing it with a new tail light assembly under warranty.

Prepping for a road trip with car camping along the way. Got a twin size air mattress from WalMart for $8 + tax, and a set of sheets with pillowcase to fit for $5 or $6. Old piece of plywood from the garage that is about 30" x 44", and a couple drop cloths from the garage to protect the car and the mattress from the wood. Already have a battery air pump.

Don't think I need to go with any more involved platform or even a larger piece of plywood. This seems to work and felt comfortable on a brief test lay down in the back of the car. I am OK with the head end being a little higher than the foot end of the bed. It will be a solo trip, so should be plenty of room for me and my stuff. ?

Is that for emissions Richard?
Safety and emissions.

As far as I can tell, the whole state now has the same inspection requirement. Although it costs $17.00 more in the NYC Metro Area, I don't think the inspection itself is any different. They check the lights, brakes, wipers, tires, undercarriage, suspension, and so forth for the safety part; and they hook up a machine to the OBD2 port for the emissions part. They no longer sniff the exhaust, at least not on vehicles built since 1996.

Vehicles built before 1996 used to require a dyno test that sniffed the exhaust. I don't know if they still do.

The Trillian screenshot refers to my well-known habit of keeping my cars waxed to a mirror shine.

Decades ago, Minnesota Institute annual emissions testing. It was a contentious bill in the legislature and the only way it passed was to add a clause to measure air quality and to dismantle the program if the air didn't improve. The testing was done for several years, but no air quality improvement was measured so the annual emissions testing requirement rode off into the sunset [emoji16]

I don't think it is all due to vehicles, but air quality here is way better than 30 years ago, and you can see it.
That is, the air is not near as visible as it used to be, and that is a good thing. Brown air matters.

Same here in the NW. The State is shutting down the testing stations. The air is so much better than when I was a kid.

Nice fall day in Portlandia.

Installed a brake light flash strobe module for the CHMSL. It flashes 5 times rapidly, and then goes solid. Maybe just a placebo effect, but I feel like people aren't following so close in heavy traffic?
