Trying to keep the Soul as clean as possible, can be a real fight during winter time. After only 2 months of winter driving (10000 km) it was time for som extra care to the paint work. There was rust spots alle over, and normal cleaning would not do the trick. I took som pictures before and after, and desided that this littel trick should be shared in this fine forum :).

You will need some oxalic acid in krystal form, hot water, spray pump, personel protectiv equitment, and elbow grease.

Mix the oxalic acid and hot water 1/10 and pour it into the spray pump. let it sit there while you wash the Soul, it is important that the paint i clean before you begin.

Start by spraying on area of the Soul and let i sit for 5 to 10 minutes before start rubbing with a soft brush. If the metal particle still sits on the paint gently rub it loose and spray with oxalic mix. You will soon get the feel for it.

before finishing the first area, then apply oxalic mix to the next area that you will work on.

When finished in one area, rinse with normal water to get the oxalic mix off the paint.

Took me 2 hours to go from this:

Ahhh, those lovely little freckles of brake dust rust. I use Turtle Wax Bug and Tar remover. Spray it on, let it soak for about 5 minutes, and it rubs right off. When I bought my Sedona used, it was COVERED in brake dust rust behind all the wheels. Within .5 hour, it was gone. Stuff works miracles.

Oh tempest....rail dust is not because you live near railway it is because the cars are shipped by rail once they arrive by ship from Korrea!! When the paint is still fresh and clean even though some areas are covered with wrap the rail dust imbeds in the paint. Over time little flecks of rail dust rust. Clay bar (bought at automotive shops) is a clay bar that you rub with a lubricant over the surface of the paint to remove all the little imperfections out of the paint. Works great

Tempest.. I live, and drives as far away from railways as you can imagin, so that's not the root course. I think it's comming from the brakes, as i can hear they "rumbles" quit a bit in the morning the first few times i brake, espesially her in the winter time. Drive 90% highway and they are always covered i salt, that dont help either.

Very happy with the diesel, never had a problem (Knock on wood). Drives 380 km to work and back again 3-4 times a week. Keep i on 110 km/h on the GPS, and have a fuel consumption of 6,1L/100 km over the last 42000 km.

Forgot to say that I gave the Soul a good Wax after. Used Sonax Wax with nano.

The brakes do rumble for the first few applications on a cold morning as the rust is cleaned off the discs. I dont have the rust spot problem (but several others on the USA forum have), just wondering if the disc pad spec is different in different climates like yours?.

same issue

I had the same problem, though certainly not as drastic looking as those photos. I ended up using a clay bar then waxing. No idea how it's holding up now with the car almost constantly covered in road salt and grime through the winter. Incidentally I do park at a train station, though I find it hard to believe the bits travel that far to get to my car.

I had a white 1999 SAAB, when I replaced the brakes I jhad these little spots a short time later, turns out it was the cheap disc brakes wearing in spewing little tiny pieces of IRON onto the side of my car which stuck and eventually looked like little rust spots. I was able to able to buff them off easily.

Don't know if this is what you have going on but I thought I would mention it, I only use ceramic brakes now.
