It doesn't appear to be the horn. I replaced mine with
PIAA's last month. It's only happened once, I double clicked
the lock button and the lights flashed but no horn. I tried a
few more times and nothing. Later in the day driving to lunch
the horn worked fine.

Well...the Horn was replaced by the Dealer on Saturday - so we'll see. So far it's worked every time - but it's still very early to declare victory. I'll report back in a week or two.

When I added a Wolo Bad Boy horn I used the OEM circuit to operate a seperate relay. I grounded the horn directly to the battery which I may change to the body to tie all grounds at nearly the same potential.

I noticed on occassion IF I have the brake lights on at the same time as the horns the Wolo Bad Boy doesn't always come on full blast. I think it's ground being directly on the battery. Sounds unlikely but I have noticed when adding additional brake or turn signal lights it's best to ground at same point as the OEM lights.

Soul Horn Problems

I constantly have had the very same issue. I got my soul from Central Kia in Plano, TX.

I was driving through Plano last Saturday and I tried honking the horn all the way to the dealership on the Freeway; the whole time it wasn't working, then as soon as I make a U-turn at the exit the horn starts working again. I still went into the service department and raised hell. And the service manager refused to even look at the Soul. He says that they can only look at it from Monday to Friday, and I would have to pay for a rental car. Forget that BS. The Central Kia service department is horrible. Do Not go there for service. If you're in the DFW area, go to Southwest Kia and get better service.

Sorry to hear you are having such trouble. Luckily my dealer replaced it for free as soon as I said "I think it's a safety issue". I've not had an issue with it since - and I honk my horn a lot. ;-)

This sounds like a clock-spring issue in the steering wheel -- might have the stealership jack the car up and try honking the horn as the steering wheel is turned.

I have the same problem. They have replaced the ground, the relay and the horn itself. Still the same issue.

the last time I brought it in they had it for 3 days and it finally acted up. That was when they replaced the horn.

I'm getting pretty fed up.

If it is also faulty with the key plip answer back then it has nothing to do with the switch or the steering column. The relays are all identical so just swap one with the horn and see if it is cured. The more likely problem is with the horn itself because if horn relays were intermittent then the identical light relays would be doing the same and we would have iffy lights.

I swapped my stock horn for a pair of wind tone horns and they have never been a problem.

Ok, having the same issue here. Horn does not work sometimes, and when you lock with the fob it doesn't honk sometimes.
The funny thing is, I can tell when it will honk or not, by the sounds of the first click of the lock button. When it isn't going to honk the lock sound is softer than when it will honk. I know that sounds stupid, but I have been paying attention to it the last couple of weeks.
I say it is about 50/50 now if it will work or not.
Guess it is time to take it in and have them have a look see.

I'm happy with a much louder horn. OEM one is PATHETIC.
Could also find a set of horns at a junk yard from a Honda
van and have REAL HORNS on your Soul.
I installed a horn that actually has an ear piercing "chirp" that is part of the security system, but can be operated independently. It will just about make ears bleed, or bladder involuntarily release so don't demonstrate it with someone sitting in the car. First time I ran it I feared for the glass cracking. LOL

Just get a bumper sticker that says, "Horn Broken -- Watch For Finger".

Mechanical horns can fail from over-use, salt / spray exposure, etc... The horn system is not that complicated -- the dealer should be able to figure it out.

I have the same problem. I have seen my horn not work on a cold day say about -20 degrees Celsius. Its very annoying. The problem cannot be reproduced consistently. The dealer once replaced my relay saying that the relay is faulty. After the relay replacement the problem has improved but not completely solved. I will know more this winter.

I just bought a 2011 Soul 5 days ago and the horn didn't work and I drove straight to the dealership and they looked at me like I had 2 heads. I need them to take me seriously. I found this forum and I am going there tomorrow with some INFO. So what is wrong, do I need a horn or relay replaced?

I have not had a single issue after they replaced my horn (only).

They checked the horn and told me they found no problems, they also told me that I have to press on the horn symbols, which I never had to. It happened again last night. I bought this car with 18,500 miles on it. I bought the 100,000 bumper to bumper. What are my rights?

Same problem here with my 2011. It cuts out intermittently when driving and when setting the allarm with the fob. They kept it for a whole day and had no problem. They said next time it happens bring it in right away. Happened today. I drove it 20 miles testing all the way only to have it start working 100 yards from the dealer. I am ready to take a sledgehammer to the horn. It always fails when I need it most. Is there a legal standpoint due to it not being roadworthy if the horn does not work?
