I bought a new oil drain plug for my 2016 Soul.
It comes with a plastic washer.
Is this plastic washer ok to use?
I have only used steel washers.
I do a lot of highway driving, if that changes anything.
Thanks for any info.

Firstly don't use steel washers. Hopefully you mean aluminum. The material has to have some "crush" to it to provide a seal. That is why they are directed to be replaced with a new one every single time you tighten it up.

In "my opinion" the plastic washer would be okay to use ONCE. It will crush and deform once to provide a seal but I wouldn't trust it after that. (I know the aluminum washers get reused often, against policy but people usually get away with it.)

I agree with Flatsole, should be fine for single use. It's more than likely a nylon or Teflon material that can take the heat from the oil pan area.

PS: noticed your flag was changed to Canada.

In the 8 years I've had my Forte, I've NEVER replaced the crush washer on the drain plug. I currently have 183,812 miles on it. I change the oil every 5,000 miles and still have no drips or leaks. I guess I'm just lucky. The crush washers I got with my filters when I ordered them from the internet were too big to fit my drain plug. That was a six pack of genuine KIA filters. The filters fit both my sons Soul and my Forte. Does that filter also fit the 2.5 GDI?
