Kia have announced (according to autoexpress!!!), that the next Kia Soul will have a four wheel drive option and will spin a 2 seater MX5 rival off the same platform.

From what I read about the all-wheel drive Soul, it is speculation at this point. Did you read somewhere that this is official info?

Here is what I read:

Kia is also reportedly working on a small, all-wheel-drive vehicle to slot below the Sportage. The Soul is due for a revamp within the next two years, so it makes sense that the funky hatchback could get all-wheel drive as part of its overhaul.

It will be cool though if they really develop/improve upon the Soul with an AWD drive option, give it the 6-spd transmission, add other upgrades, etc. If they make the Soul a little more well-rounded in its driving dynamics, better MPG, a bit better interior etc. it could really be a car to be reckoned with...all us will be wishing we had a newer one though.

The Soul's design does seem like it would be a great fit with AWD and would probably capture the AWD shopping crowd pretty well.

KIA can possibly make a Miata fighter using Genesis coupe platform but this will be too large/expensive. I have owned and loved both NA/NB Miatas and many have tried with FWD and RWD format but nothing came close except for MR-2 which was discontinued. Miata will be one vehicle that will be near impossible to "beat" with current followers [hardcore]. Miata like some VW and some Jeep models have cult like followers and these will always be around and be challenged my other manufacturals but never be dethrone as "king of the hill".

Soul 4x4/AWD version will be neat and probably can sell in limited #s. will you pay $2000-$4000 premium for a Soul with MPG equalling small CUV? Pricing will be important but to keep cost down, KIA will have to use parts from parts bin instead of the latest engine/trans/Drive system. We complain about our current engine and 4speed being "old" tech.

Okay Tempest, a 4x4 options would be cool. Or really, all wheel drive, which is different.

BUT, the picture you posted is a joke. You're not fooling me old man. The picture is nothing more than a Soul of another color with some photoshop work done. The original Miata (MX5) beater. It would be a Pontiac Solstice GXP to be exact. Even on a bad day, our resident photoshop expert Marc can best this effort. Now don't even tell me you've never seen at least a picture of a Solstice GXP? Over there you've at least seen it's sister car, the Opel GT?

I'll go get a picture and be back....and here you go......

anybody who knows the autoexpress mag knows that the pics are photoshopped and the stories are pretty much 50% fabrication..... i was merely reporting what was printed.

No we dont get the Opel GT or its American cousin, wish we did cos its a very pretty looking car.

And a bit less of the "old man" - or i will twat you round the head with my walking stick....humpy!!!.....lol

Y`know.. a AWD/4WD Soul would be pretty nice; especially since I live with the snow..
My poor Soul has a hard time getting up my own damn driveway when it's icey, yet the my parent's cars [2002 Kia Sportage & 1998 Suzuki Sidekick] have no problems at all. It's sad.

...and the cause of my first scratch. >_>;;

Considering this thread was started 9 years ago about a rumoured 4x4 Soul, we all know how that turned out 🤠

We have an event every year in Indianapolis, IN called GENCON. I met a Kia engineer when I picked him up as I was doing uber. (this was before the pandemic.) He said there IS an AWD version of the soul, but it's only sold in Korea. Something about patents in the US that aren't valid in Korea, so they made the AWD version only in Korea.

Considering the Seltos is AWD, I wonder if that means we MIGHT get a AWD version of the SOUL in the near future, or if they are going to replace our beloved Soul with the Seltos. Only time will tell, but I figured I would share what I was told last year. Haven't been able to confirm this with anyone in Korea though yet, so I don't know if he was telling the truth or pulling my leg.

"That's cool that there is a version of 4x4 Soul in Korea. I wonder if it's the one with the rear wheels having an electric assist motor (hey, technically it's a 4x4, right?). I'd love to see a YouTube review on this vehicle.'
