I had the piston rings go bad in my 2015 Soul and was able to get my engine replaced for free. It took them 8 weeks to get it done and I had to rent a car the entire time, so this cost me a couple thousand dollars. As soon as I got it repaired, I took it in to the Kia stealership and traded it for a 2020 Soul in October 2019. I had liked my Soul so I wanted to stay with Kia. I have had this car for 5 years now and hope that it will go past 200,000 miles.

The dealership just said the piston rings needed to be replaced, and that their policy is just to replace the entire engine. The worst news is that I can't find maintenance records for two oil changes from 4-5 years ago, so they won't honor the warranty and replace the engine. My car is almost at the end of the warranty at 97,000 miles. 2016 Kia Soul

What do you mean by your piston rings went bad? Does it run and burn a lot of oil or is it not running at all?

The piston ring recall was on some early 2020-2021 2.0L Souls (Gen 3). The only thing on your Gen 2 would be the KSDS which extends the engine warranty to 15 years/150k miles for a specific failure (rod bearings).

If you’re the original owner and the dealer is complaining about 2 oil change records from years ago that sounds ridiculous to me. You can try calling Kia customer care at 800-333-4542 or open a ticket here
