I had a 2013 KIA soul+ and converted from conventional oil to full synthetic. It has 185,000 miles and developed a engine tick that would be more to repair than it's value.
Now I bought a Enterprise former rental, a 2020 Soul S, 2.0L, with 65,000 miles on it and was told the only oil they used was conventional oil. I want to change it to full synthetic, but was told not to do that, for reasons I don't understand. Something about it will start leaking since synthetic oil is so much thinner. It was suggested that I change it to a synthetic blend instead and never switch to full synthetic.
So is this true? Since Kia started the engine life on conventional oil, I must keep it to that or the blend only. Any idea if this is true?
Please note, I am a part time or occasional Uber/Lyft driver and will be putting much more miles on than usual and do my own oil changes. Plus I work full time at an Auto parts store and get good prices on synthetic, which is why I want to switch to what the whole world thinks is best for the engine. What should I do?
Please help.
