Did the new hub come with the wheel speed sensor or did you have to reuse the old one?
It came with a new one. I was thinking of saving the old one “just in case” but have no idea how it comes off. Do they just pop off I wonder?

You can use a thin blade screwdriver or like I did, my trusty Buck knife, and tap it between the black plastic and the metal part of the hub to separate it. You'll have to go around the entire circumference of it and then just pop it loose. It's pretty easy. Just be careful if you use a screwdriver because I broke the tip off mine the first time I did it. I also use a rubber mallet to tap on my knife and once I have a gap, use a wiggling motion to make it wider.

I decided not to bother saving the old ones (actually, I forgot). It was 35° and windy and I just wanted to get the car done.

Went for a ride and the wheel bearings are nice and quiet and service brakes work great, no ABS light so the speed sensors that came with the new bearings are working fine.

Parking brake I’ll have to adjust more at the wheels. I really dislike this style of parking brake, with the shoes and springs and adjusters. Easily the biggest pain of the whole job. Glad the newer Souls use the calipers for the parking brake rather than all this crap on the 1st gen. But not a bad job overall. All the parts were just under $500 and probably saved over a grand by doing it myself.

Changed the oil on the 2011 Soul today. 153k on engine. A little under 5k miles on the oil.

Amazon basics 5w30 high mileage synthetic blend and a Kia filter.

Did a transmission drain and fill too. Hyundai SP-III.

Have a problem with the exhaust. Front pipe where it connects to the rear cat the bolts have vaporized and is hanging on by a thread, literally.

Too much work for me to get under there and cut off what’s left of the bolts and haven’t a clue what size they used to be. So will be taking it to Meineke Monday. The flex part has been leaking for a while too so might as well have that fixed at the same time.

Old rusty cars… something is always falling apart.

I just think of it like a car payment. Maintain things, and it costs less than a new car payment. :)

Today I rode past my Soul on the motorcycle twice. Once leaving and once returning. I confess to looking where I was going, not the car. Gravel is not my favorite surface to ride a street bike on, but that is my driveway.

I put some front brake pads on my 2013. The pedal was going down far. They were darn near just metal. The dealer or a previous owner broke the little metal wear indicator off.

The rotors were fine.

I then got some rear pads from rock auto cheap. After watching YouTube I was puzzled that our parking brake is basically a drum setup.

I didn't mess with the parking brake. The rotors were fine so I didn't mess with them either. Just some new rear pads.

The brake pedal is really nice now. The car stops great.

Think I spent 50 bucks changing front and rear pads plus a tube of anti squeal grease.

This is a very cheap car to own.

Took the hour drive to town to hit a couple big stores. Got stuck in traffic behind a crash. I am so much more relaxed without that mess. It was hot too. We decided to skip getting lunch and headed for home. Found a jury duty summons in the mail. The damm court is down there. Ugh.

There's a court 10 miles from me, but they closed it. I hear because the judges did not want to do the drive. But it's OK to make us pay for the drive with no judge salary to help. :poop:

Changed the oil pan!. Driving to work last week, and a tree stump (12" diameter) rolled out to me from nowhere, and I couldn't avoid it so.....whammo it hit right inside my pass front tire, bent the radiator support, crushed the oil pan and made a dent to the rear pass. floorboard before exiting out the back! Car never skipped a beat. Made it 10 miles to work, and that evening I replaced the oil pan, and semi straightened the radiator support and closely inspected everything, to find I was lucky! No radiator leaks.....no freon leaks, no exhaust leaks, no oil leaks either. Been driving a week now with absolutely no issues. Now at 188,878 miles on her. Much better than the "flying Kia Soul flip from a lost tire" that everyone has seen the video of, by now! That's what flashed through my mind when the stump connected! Oh, and by the way......changing the oil pan was EASY. (straightening the oil pickup tube was NOT).

Attempted to fix the rust above the rear wheel on the old clunker today. Not much metal left and if I keep sanding all the rust, I’d have half a wheel arch left. Lost about a half inch of it just by sanding. More metal is on the ground than on the car it seems.

This is a lost cause and needs new metal or a new quarter, but that’s not going to happen on a 2011 Soul. Repairing this properly at a body shop will cost more than the car is worth.

So I’m just going to glob the bondo on and hope for the best. The rust was pretty bad last summer when I attempted this, had a few holes, but there’s more blow outs now. It’s depressing because mechanically the car is great.

Oh well, it’s my dad’s car and he doesn’t care as long as it looks a little better. I can’t guarantee that, but at least it will be the same color. This will be the last time I get color matched paint though. If I have to do it again, and I will, it’s going to be rustoleum black.

This makes me want to take extra good care of my 2019. Will be doing the undercoating spray with Woolwax in the next few weeks. Not going to bother undercoating the old 2011 anymore. The body will rot away before the subframe at this point 😕

Maybe Kia should take inspiration from Elon and come out with a stainless steel version - à la the Cyber Soul

The POS garbage truck? :ROFLMAO:
Yeah not exactly the bullet-proof bad-ass truck that maybe originally touted as gonna be. I haven't followed it closely other than reading a few online articles here and there about how upset some of the early buyers are with it.

I think the most recent article I read was about owners being pissed that they can't get, or keep the stainless steel body clean (like would be able to with a regular painted vehicle body).

It’s an odd “truck” for sure but I like some of the wraps I see people doing to change the color of it. I can’t imagine owning a stainless steel car, it’s hard enough keeping the stainless fridge looking clean. Next fridge will be white!

Oil change on the old 2011 clunker.

156k miles on the engine and about 3k on the oil.

Out and back in went my last bottle of Amazon Basics High Mileage 5w30 with a Wix filter. Oil looked good and the engine runs like a top.

This will be a running thread on what you did to or for your Soul today! Show some love to your bud!

I'm kicking it off with three things I did. I added a KIA Soul Forums and Hamster Inside sticker to my back window and put on my rear bumper protector that got here from Korea. Everything went well and this is how they turned out.
I'm bummed I have to maybe say goodbye to my 2012 black on black Kia Soul his name is shade and he's totaled and I don't want to lose him he still runs and only because of a careless driver pulling out in front of me and the airbag deployed is the reason insurance says it's totaled, damage is cosmetic :cry:
