Well, while my son was in Birmingham for some job training for two weeks, he let me know there was a couple of issues with the Soul. It was slowing down significantly while going uphill and the transmission started slipping. No CEL so none of the parts stores there would bother to hook up a scan tool. He decided he didn't want to put any more money into it, so yesterday he traded it in on a 2026 Sportage Prestige SX This is a nice frigging ride. He's going to be paying out the butt for it, but he just got a promotion at the Post Office and says he can afford it. His insurance is actually going down about $25 a month, which I don't get, but that's okay. I don't like the fact that this one had a 2.5 GDI engine which makes me think that it's going to need a periodic valve cleaning just like the 2.0 GDI. Does anyone know? I'll try to post pictures later because he's gone back to the dealership to get his garage door opener and license plate that he forgot. Anyway, I probably won't be around much anymore but might check in on you guys every once in a while, if that's okay. I don't know that I've contributed much during my short time here, but I sure have enjoyed getting to know some of you.

I'm guessing you mean 2026 not 2016 Sportage. The 2.5 has been good, it is both MPI and GDI so 8 injectors on a 4 cylinder. It switches between the 2 systems and at certain loads actually uses both. It is a very nice car, early 2.5s had a problem with the GDI injectors which would cause a misfire at times but that has been a non issue for the last few years. I hardly ever see them in the shop for anything but maintenance.

Yeah, nice catch, man. I DO mean 2026. This damn thing will even drive itself around curves with no hands on the wheel. I told him to NEVER use that feature. Thank you for letting me know that I most likely won't have to do the valve cleaning, bwdz75. That puts my mine at ease, somewhat. LOL

Kia Sportage is a great SUV. Just right sized to us if we wish to trade up . .. not for awhile tho.

Just to clear the air, it IS a 2026. I'm so used to typing 2016 that I automatically hit that one instead of the two! His salesman told him it comes with 3 months free for the satellite radio, but if he'll come in every three months, he knows a hack and he'll reset it for free. I think he wanting to drum up some "service work" while Philip is there. The owners manual (yeah, I've already looked at it) recommends oil changes at 8,000 mile intervals. I told my son to take it to the dealership every 7,000 to 7,500 and let THEM change it. I'm not going to be wrenching on it for at least 100,000 miles. Maybe I'll still be alive and able by the time he rolls 100,000. Who knows? I'm only 69 but God doesn't guarantee anyone tomorrow.

If he drives city do 5k oil changes. The Sportage has an oil life indicator in the cluster, hit setup, vehicle and then its under convenience it'll have service interval and oil life. Don't let oil life go below 30%. I used the same oil life rule on my wife's Camaro and the junk 3.6 never burned oil or had timing chain issues they're notorious for.

Sounds like you got that kid headed in the right direction and he shouldn't have any car problems for a long time. Good job chuzz!

Don't be a stranger. You've been a great contributor to this forum!

You should just hang around and bullshit with us once in a while, even without a Soul. We need people here that aren't just one and done'ers, sucking out of the forum and never giving back. Otherwise the rest of us will end up bailing too! You don't need to have a Soul to give advice on one :)

Thanks jd. I will probably do that as I have added you guys to my family. Even though I suffer from CRS from having had 2 brain surgeries, I'll stick around and if I see something I THINK I can help with, I'll do that. Did you recently get a Sportage too, jd or am I thinking of someone else. I'm going to search for a Sportage forum unless you can recommend one. I like to become a member on the specific vehicles sitting in my driveway.
