Something loose in steering?

The other day I noticed a "clicking" noise when My 2017 Soul (base) was sitting in my driveway. The engine is running and when I slightly turn the wheel L or R a clicking noise is heard. I'm moving the steering wheel about 1 inch in either direction. Turn the wheel R = 1 click, turn the wheel L = 1 click. I do not hear any clicking when the car is moving.

Has anyone had this occur?

Thanks for any interaction...

Hi SillyBoy, I wouldn't worry too much as it's under warranty. Take it back to them to solve (and let us know how it goes).

It may be a Recall (but you should have received something in the mail about that). If you take the car in for dealer service, any TSB's should have been performed. You can check on the NHTSA site for RECALLS & COMMUNICATIONS from KIA on your 2017. It's also good reading. A quick check shows NO recalls on the 2017 and 5 TSB's, but none related to steering.

Like manfreity said, there was a steering coupling issue (pinion gear) and glue related failures, but not sure if it affected your MY. I could also imagine clicking from the clockspring behind the horn button. Try putting your ear close to that area and see if it comes from there.

All the best!

In the first generation (i.e. 2012/2013) there was sort of recall on the steering coupler. That no matter what time of the warranty you are in (new, extended, done) it will be covered to fix if that is what it is. They even refunded people who paid to have it fixed (I got my check last week!)
It's called the MDPS coupler
