Piston Rings Destroying Engine

Our 2020 Soul passed the initial recall inspection, so we felt we were in the clear by now with 14K miles. Then it just started shaking violently on startup, throwing the P0304 Code. Dealer scoped the cylinder walls and saw scoring in cylinder 4. That one off event has become a regular feature now.

Any suggestions how to make Kia make good on their warranty? What exactly would the best "fix" look like? Any suggestions? Thanks.
If they saw scoring they should be replacing the engine. That’s the only fix. What did the dealer tell you?

If they confirmed there’s scoring and won’t replace the engine you can try calling Kia Consumer Assistance 800-333-4542

i did buy it from a dealership in nov 2020 and i didn't start moving/messing with my mail until apr 22. i didn't get anything from the dealership :( i'm still wondering how folks were notified...email? snail mail?? phone call??

i would look at the door but it's 60 miles away at the dealership, since it was a leftover it was prob made in 2019 (just guessing).
Kia America sent out letters in the mail. If you bought it new, they should have known your address. The letter was sent out well before 4/22, not sure exactly but I think it was early 2021.

In the back of your owners manual there’s a little change of address/new owner card you can fill out and mail to Kia America to update your address, or ask your dealer. Because you should have received the letter for the recalls.

Improper repairs were the cause of most Hyundai Kia fires. When you disconnect the high pressure fuel pump and lines, the manufacturer requires you to replace the lines and bolts. Shops were not doing that and not tightening them properly and when there’s up to 2000 psi of pressure in there, you want to make sure the fittings are tight!

Not checking your oil and running so low that a connecting rod busts through the block dumping oil on the hot exhaust was another reason some caught on fire.

if you’re so unhappy with your Kia. Trade it in for a Tesla. They never spontaneously combust 🫢
