Can anyone help me with my 2019 Kia Soul 1.6L non turbo? It started off at 50,000 mi, and my fuel rail pressure regulator sensor failed, and dumped a bunch of gas into my engine, causing it to run excessively rich - White clouds of smoke galore. Replaced the sensor, everything was fine... for a while...
About a month and a half later, the infamous p0171-bank 1 too lean code came out of nowhere. No other codes, mind you. Researched to find out what would cause this code. Here's everything I've done... I still got the code:
Fuel pressure test - 500 to 2200 PSI
Smoke test - no vacuum leaks
Oil burning off, no oil on the dipstick - replaced the PCV valve
STFT -10% to 10%
LTFT jumps up to 34% at idle, down to about 11% under load
Replaced the MAP sensor
Replaced the EGR purge valve/sensor
Ran seafoam in the gas tank, the oil pan, and through the throttle body (aerosol can)
Ran cataclean in 1/4 full tank
Took out and cleaned both O2 sensors with mass air flow sensor cleaner.
By now, I put over $1,200 into this vehicle between parts and service, and the p0171 code is still there. It's not tripping constantly, it comes on as if there's a very small vacuum leak, but since I did smoke test and found no vacuum leak, I don't understand why it comes on sporadically. Sometimes the code might come on after a month, while other times the code might come on after a couple of hours. Every time the code comes on, I reset every parameter in my engine, including fuel trims, etc.
Is there a TSB on this issue, perhaps a glitch in the ECU, or something that somebody knows about this that I'm just not seeing. Would love any advice on how to fix this. I know that Korean engines are notorious for blowing up, and I don't want my vehicle to be one of these statistics.
BTW, I disconnected bank one sensor one O2 sensor, before the catalytic converter, and the engine runs so much smoother, and fuel trims are running on an open loop, but are much more in spec than when that O2 sensor is plugged in.
