I grew up in Redding, CA. The whole town shut down when it snowed.

After I moved to NH, I learned how to drive in the snow. One winter, I drove down to FL to see my kids. A snow storm hit SC and NC just before I drove back home to NH. People were driving less than 10MPH on Interstate 95. I was blowing past them at 45MPH, because I knew how to drive in the snow!
It's all about knowing the capabilities, and limits of your vehicle and what it's got on it..

You can do better on all seasons than someone on winter tires simply with that bit of knowledge.

I was amazed that people were driving slower than 10MPH in a little snow storm. There was about 2 inches of compacted snow on the road.... basically ice. But, on an Interstate highway, there is no reason to drive 10MPH, even when there is ice on the road. 45MPH was fine. The problem was that the people in SC and NC didn't have experience driving on snow/ice.

I was passing most cars. I was driving 45MPH. I remember one car that passed me like I was sitting still. I thought that guy was crazy. A few miles down the road, he was wrecked... off the side of the road. Imagine that!!!

It's not difficult to drive 45MPH on an Interstate highway when it is covered with snow/ice. I just thought it was crazy that people were driving 10MPH.

The one car that was driving way too fast was an outlier. But 45MPH on a snow-covered interstate highway is very easy.

It reminds me about 4 years ago, just before I traded my 2016 base in for my 2018 1 Mil, we were in Montana during a really bad winter. Didn't bother me then, didn't bother me now. But I remember driving on the interstate through Bozeman, at 80 mph, on a thick sheen of ice, with the all seasons that had come with the car. I remember it specifically because it felt exactly like a normal road, until my other half commented that the road was iced over. Montana does something with their highways that makes the ice well, more drivable. Not once did I try to oversteer, spin the tires or anything. I just let the car drive itself essentially.

I've been in a similar situation. I was driving on a 2-lane country road in Maine. I was not familiar with the road. I was driving 55-60MPH when I encountered a steep down-hill slope. I didn't expect the road to go downhill with such a steep slope. My girlfriend wasn't happy with me because I continued at a pretty fast rate of speed down the hill. I figured it was better NOT to touch the brakes. The car got a little squirrelly, but I didn't lose control. If I had stepped on the brake pedal, I would have certainly lost control of the car.

I decided to "go with it". She was not happy. I trusted my gut, and in the end... I kept control of the car.

I've done some crazy stuff (intentionally) in cars during my lifetime, and I just knew that it would be a really bad thing to step on the brake pedal.

RE:crazy stuff:

Think... crazy stuff you see in movies, plus super slick roads that are covered with wet clay, etc.

One time, I rented a car just to perfect that "drive backward at high speed and then spin around and drive forward" thing that you see in movies.

A word of advice... don't ever buy a rental car!!! People like me really F-d up the transmission!!!

Keep the foam and inflator for when you pick up a nail and can't get it repaired straight away.

There are ways to mount a full size spare externally to using the hitch. Seen it done, or do it like some off roaders, keep it in the roof basket.

Both of my souls only came with that foam pump thingy. I think the pump may be useful without the foam, not sure. The spare wheel well is to small for a full size spare unless you want to modify the foam storage tray. I agree reducing our spare abilities is crap. I always thought it was because they got sued from some knob running on all spares which then failed.
I just added a full-size spare to my 2015.

Wheel and TPMS SENSOR from LKQ and a tire from my local shop.

The foam cargo liner thing is $456 on new on Amazon, so I'm thinking of selling that and just modifying my own storage.

I've done some pretty good speed in bad snow conditions. The lesson came when one of those doing low speep SUDDENLY veered into my lane. My saying is "It's not how fast you can go, it's how fast you can stop." Time and time again I've seen people poking along. That says a lot about them. I try to keep pace, now, knowing that these people are busy chatting, tuning, phoning. Don't put your trust in a fast pass. Give 'm time to know you're coming, and still don't trust them.

I am waiting for my eBay-ordered spare tire kit. It may be all of it except for the donut tire itself. When it comes to me in Tucson, AZ I will have to go to the 100% real tire places to get quotes. I am a Sam's Club member and will give them the 1st visit. One other Jack Furrier has been giving me free services in the past.

We bought our 2021 turbo new from the local dealer. Car we test drove had mats, spare tire, the hard cover over the tire, and was very clean. Our car came in and when we went to collect it I open the engine compartment and the engine was filthy, there were no mats, there was no spare tire cover at all, and no spare tire or tire repair kit. Refused the car, called national Kia and claimed bait and switch was used by our local dealer. Next day, local dealer claimed it was an over site by them. They replaced all the missing items. Won’t ever buy from them again, though.

I got my 2019 base Soul from Carvana, and the tire mobility kit is included. In the instructions, it points out it will not work for sidewall punctures. This car is not a Tesla with recording cameras all around. I will feel more secure with some sort of real spare tire.

FedEx delivered the Kia part #B2F40 AK900-Spare Tire kit later. It looks like the real kit from Kia. It seems to have everything except for the BAR (Kia name) to secure the wheel to the body. It has a hook twisted to the threaded rod that goes through the center of the steel wheel and is secured with the nut device (Kia named=hold down clamp). I email the seller and request them to send me 1. No response yet.
From the info. sent along that spare donut tire is called a T125/80D16. I called the mentioned the local tire sellers and 2 of the 3 will not sell me 1. Via the internet search - autoanything.com came up with the price of $74.99 and the 3rd local tire place came up with $145.

I did get a response from the eBay seller asking for pictures. I figured the bAR should be called/something else as the extension device to crank up the scissors-type jack not too close to the heavy elevated car. I did apologize to the seller. He did excellent work for the $171.37 Spare tire kit.
I did get the new $130.15 doughnut spare tire from a local big-time tire place. Watch out for the extra charges like mine for the waste tire-disposal fee of $2.75. I did supply the untired wheel. That "normal" fee was removed from my credit card account.

Thanks to nobody for answering my actual question. I just went ahead and bought the kit on ebay for $165, including shipping.

It's unforgiveable that car manufacturers are no longer providing a spare tire with the car. I thought that was required by law. I guess I was wrong.

A 12 volt tire inflator and a can of sealant is not a substitute for an actual spare tire. I thought it was terrible when car manufacturers stopped providing a full-size spare tire and wheel. The "donut" was an aberration when it first appeared. But... now they aren't even bothering to provide that!?!?!?!
I agree with you! I was shocked when I went looking for a spare. Mine didn't even have the sealant or inflator.

For many reasons, your car has no sealant or inflator. If you want them you can go to your friendly Walmart to get them. My low mileage preowned car came with the Kia-supplied kit and I did go to the real spare tire path. I go with insurance sometimes, as when I die I don't care what happens with my body. Slime is the brand I go with for the sealant and inflator.
