Steering Coupler 2104 Soul

Local dealer is telling me that I need a steering coupler to resolve some sounds from the steering. I’ve looked online for this part and cannot find it nor can I find any videos of how to replace it. Is the steering coupler a serviceable part on the 2014 Soul + or is it a whole unit replacement? I am being quoted $500. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for sharing. I have known about this one, but it cuts off at 2013 model year Soul. If newer models are experiencing it, I would expect that I would at least find google results for newer model years.
This was an issue on 2014s,
Service bulletins were early on.

Our 2014 purchased 5/2014,
Steering coupler bulletin done 8/2014.

Was that the SC155 Pinion plug? It looks like they torqued the plug nut to spec & added a set screw.

hey tj, have you registered on the Kia Owners Site? Once you do, recalls and other service issues engendered to your vehicles VIN should show up. It's a pretty good site, free from KIA and keeps you generally informed.

Are you looking for the steering coupler or the MDPS coupler (motor driver power steering)? The MDPS coupler retails for under $10 from the kia dealer and takes about an hour to install for a newbie. The steering coupler rarely goes bad, you just tighten the 12mm nut by the floor and the clunk goes away. So I guess it just depends on what noise you have and where it is coming from.
