Soul vs. Scion Xb

Now that I have about 8000 miles on the 2010 Soul+ I can make a better comparison to our 2008 Xb. Remember that this is my opinion. The Soul is a great car and is enjoyable to drive. Our Xb which has around 45000 miles on it is a great car too. We use the Soul more for short distance trips such as commuting to work. The Soul feels more nimble than the Xb, but the Xb wins in the power department. Neither of the cars have a soft ride, the Soul having a slighter stiffer ride. On long trips ( we have taken 4 trips over 600 miles in the last year) The Xb is our preference. The Soul becomes a little anemic at 70 mph, especially in the mountains where the grades and altitude make the Soul a bit wheezy. The Xb takes this in stride. The Xb also has a tad more cargo space. Visibility is about the same (excellent) in both vehicles. The Soul, with its slightly better economy, has an edge in city driving. As far as amenities go, the Soul has better driver position - the steering is farther away from the seat in the Xb. While I prefer the seats in the Xb, the seat adjustment (especially seat back adjustment) is better in the Soul. The AC/defog in the Xb is much better than that in the Soul. The cruise control and radio controls are better in the Soul. A big plus is that the Soul has bluetooth handsfree phone capability. The Xb has a slightly more refined feeling than the Soul in smoothness, comfort and finish, but the Soul is not much behind. These differences are very subjective. I like both of my silver boxes. Would I buy either vehicle again? The answer is yes! They are both well designed and built vehicles. I feel that they both beat the Nissan "gumby mobile" (no disrespect to the people who like the Nissan)we test drove both in price and performance.

Before I bought my 2012 Soul+ my first choice was a Scion XB, primarily due to its spacious interior but I also like the newer body style. I hated the way the old Scion XBs looked. The Toyota dealership wouldn't budge on the price or financing terms.

I decided to check out the Kia Soul. The vehicle had stellar reviews and a decent price point. The Soul+ had almost as much interior space as the XB and actually drove better; more power, smoother transmission, better handling etc.

For less than what I would have paid for an XB, the Soul I purchased had more features; nice rims, upgraded UVO/Infinity stereo, a more stylish interior etc. The KIA brand was the only thing holding me back. With Toyota you know you're getting a quality product. But the Soul reviews and KIA's 100,000 mile power-train guarantee convinced me to give it a shot.
I also thought about an XB, but preferred the old body style to the new. Then there's the problem of the Scion dealer network, or should I say the lack of network, unless you just happen to live near a Scion dealer, which I do not. I am quite satisfied with my Soul!. I think it's rather silly that Toyota doesn't see fit to have Scion in with every Toy dealership, but it's their loss.
well you won't have to worry about it too much longer as the xB and xD could "hit the bricks" within a year or so. My wife always thought it looked like a miniature armored car. I sat in one and found it had quite a bit of room, but couldn't get past the dash set up and the depth, it felt like you were looking through a slot when viewing out the front windshield. Also that front end just seemed too bulky.
Also as mentioned the dealer network is much thinner here in Canada than the US.

about the cube; there's an expression in the car sales business: there's an ass for every seat...
I like Scion Xb because The 2012 Scion xB has poor fuel economy for the class and its impressive tech features and ample passenger and cargo space help compensate for this fault.the xB’s boxy shape does make it one of the most spacious and utilitarian models in the class. In addition to plenty of interior space, the xB offers technology that is impressive for the class. Bluetooth, a USB port and a Pioneer stereo, which are often optional features, are standard.

I gotta say that, I can agree on most things you said, however, my 2010+ takes to the mountain roads like any awd vehicle i've ever driven and and though I've done small performance mods, she still held the road just as well before i did any of that. But with the ride, if you purchase a better set of tires that those that come on the soul your ride will improve ten-fold, as well as upgrade your shocks, and struts, and then from there it's like rolling in butter,..because that's just how I roll! :)
Only one of those two cars still exists. 😁

Even though it's a 10 year old thread, it makes me wonder about the wisdom of naming a vehicle after a shape.

Scion xb (which invokes Xbox in many minds)
Nissan Cube

Are there any other shape-named vehicles out there?

Before I bought my Soul in 2014 I shopped both those vehicles. My impression of the xb and Cube was that's exactly what they were, utility boxes on wheels. The inside of a Soul is stylish and you don't really know it's boxy until you see it from the outside, but still looks cool.

It's no surprise to me the Soul was the last one standing.

Looks like the post I replied to by new user “Scion” (that brought this thread back to life) has been deleted/banned?

The Honda Element was also in the ‘box on wheels’ category. It was the only boxy car besides the Soul I like. The Cube was hideous lol. (Edit: I’m thinking the Juke was hideous, the Cube was, weird.)

Hopefully the Soul will still be standing years to come.
