Has anyone received a letter from Kia instructing them to take their affected Soul to the dealership for a software update that will resolve the Ignition Immobilizer issue? I swung by the dealership yesterday and the service department had no idea what I was talking about. If he still posts here, perhaps the Kia Service Manager can shed some light on this?

FWIW, I heard about this in a roundabout way. My auto insurer (AARP/Hartford) sent me an email, stating Kia would start sending out letters. Also, that dealerships will distribute steering wheel locks free of charge. The email included a link to the corporate Kia website--which had absolutely no information about this.

Thanks in advance!

I’m sure he knows what you were talking about unless he lives under a rock. They’re rolling it out in waves. Some Sportage owners have received the letter. I think I read that they expect it to be out to everyone eligible for it by June or so.

I would be speculating on exactly what the software does (although I have some idea I don't know exactly) but I can tell you that it is installed in the body control module software on the Sportage and Optima (the 2 models that it is currently out for) and that the other models are probably going to be included very soon and will likely be a similar update to the BCM software. It is probably getting old to hear be patient but I am sure this is a priority and the Optima update followed the Sportage by about 2 weeks so I would imagine the next set of updates is right around the corner so hopefully the Soul is the next model.

Thanks bwdz75! Apologies for not recalling your user name. I figured if anyone had credible information about this, it'd be you.

I just called my Kia Dealer about my 2014 Kia Soul she asked if I received a Letter I told Her no. I also told Her about the email from My Insurance Company requesting I verify. She told me I didn’t need the Update.
