RESET - 2023 LX

1582 Views 31 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  Rio Rider
My 2023 soul lx keeps nagging me, every twenty minutes, to consider taking a break.

I cannot find a 'reset' button for this item alone, after multiple searches.

Can a 'system reset' screw up things, or is there a shorter route to resolve this nag?

I could be wrong, but I believe the car is reading your attention span, or lack thereof. If you continuously trigger the lane departure warning, the car thinks you need a nap.

Mine has never triggered, but I read...

go to set up
vehicle driver assistance
driver attention warning
disable it
I've disabled the attention warning, which does not list the break, but I've shut off the lane departure as well. At any rate, thanks for the suggestion; I have to take a ride again to see if this kills the nagging. I'll get back again to let you know the latest.
Went for 45 minute drive with as many options I could affect switched off.

The suggestion to take a break kept playing
every ten or fifteen minutes, I think it was.

While I've seen the suggestion to delete or disable this command, the alarm tone,

in this particular vehicle there is not a visible option to
adjust, delete, deselect this option.

The alarm tone and display of a coffee cup pervades. Every ten to fifteen minutes, regardless of driving pattern.

Perhaps there was a short run of this irritating setup released. Of course, I don't know.

I expect this has to go to KIA CANADA for authorization or correction.

I'm certainly reluctant to go to the Franchise that sold it to me.

Perhaps the loose nut behind the wheel needs an adjustment?
No. That's the American version and there's no tool big enough for that loose nut.

"I found this in the online “features and functions” guide, but I’m sure this is also in your owners manual. Does this help at all?"
___

Indeed, it is in my manual
___

Well, it helps define what I'm not seeing;
in that Driver Assistance,
Driver Attention Warnings has only the one singlular option; that being
Leading Vehicle Departure. (On or Off.)

My son suggests that pehaps there were a few renditions of this software cluster, and that with my particular 'update', no further menus were applied. We may have other people whining, though, eh?

He further suggests that perhaps there's a 'firmware update' available, but I don't know how to find that. Thing is, I don't want to lose other features or have them as non-functional. Switching off the sound and image are possible workarounds, but I actually don't recall repeated experiences of this in the initial days of use of the vehicle.

Nor can I imagine any setting being so terminal as to have had this effect. I mean, if I could turn it off, I should be able to restore to default. ... ... unless ... some interloper used my local wi-fi to hack me ... ? .

This "take a break" feature, unadjustable as present, is probably the lead feature I wanted.

Otherwise performance, in my experience of this car, is outstanding. I love it.

In Canada, we might start a whole series of jokes, because this car was brought to me from Quebec (Which, if I give it free reign, the car may want to race home. I'd be happy for that, as some of the most beautiful scenery and culture is in Quebec. Google: Saguenay Fjord.)
This is the Dash, showing what I get:

CRAP ! That was far too easy. (I"m shakin' my head, laughing.) Thanks so much for the advice, rhysoul.
On a hunch that may or may not work. When was the last time you cleaned your wind screen? The system can't work properly if it can't see.
Thanks for this thought.

I haven't been zealous 'bout cleaning the windshield. However, I did take the car to the coin wash yesterday, and after that there was no change. It's worthy to note, though, that my understanding is that these operations' wax can interfere with wiper blades and the windscreen. So I try to avoid getting wax on the windshield. This means I may have not cleaned the windshield. That becomes the next task.

In this regard, though, I had the car tell me, on my first drive in a snowstorm, that the camera was blocked. The wiper cleared 'the block' and it went into normal mode. This makes me believe that if the screen is dirty, the car will (what has our society come to?) tell me to clean up my act; which it did not. Can't hurt to give it a wipe.

In the olden days, when I was young, the hot rod set used to say " A wipe a day keeps grime away ". I've also won a few bike show plaques for knowing what a clean machine is. My mechanic lowered my charges, too, I think because he saw an immaculate engine room.

Thanks for this thought.
No Difference. Seems to be no interest in this problem.
My understanding or misunderstanding is that the driver attention stuff is supposed to reset after the car's been shut off for a while; however, it hasn't reset.
Maybe Canadian model doesn’t let you turn it off? I don’t know why the settings would be different than what I posted the other day (from the US owners manual). Maybe someone with a 2023 Canadian model can try and see if they can shut theirs off.
Thanks for trying to process this. I can assure you that after about a half hour, it chimes every five or so. Just a LITTLE irritating. I can do nothing else but try to find an answer, over time. This is the advancement of driving. They'd like us to have autonomous vehicles?

Imagine all the potential fails. Like in your garage, lights out, car shuts off, total blackout, find the doors locked, no power to open, can't find switches ... . We' got 'er easy at this primal stage of progress. I'd love to get an economical, low tech vehicle, but there seems to be no demand.
Ear plugs?

Just may be the only option. I guess if I'm stopped by police, go to court, hope that the proof of the machine's inability to shut off or modify this warning will allow for leniency.
I have a US model that has the same problem.
Hmm. I thought I was the voice of one crying in the wilderness.
I wonder if they changed the menu for 2023 and don’t let you turn it off anymore. That wouldn’t be good, but I’ve only heard two complaints about it so far. One in Canada and one in the US. 🤔
Well, believe it or not, that's what I said some time ago on this forum; that my son figures exactly that. Remains to be seen. The saga continues. I'd like to dim the DING!, too. Ah well.
