New 2012 Kia Soul Base w/MT bought 2 weeks ago. Standard mirror has a slight but noticeable distortion. Has anyone else has had or heard of this issue?
No darkening, just a noticeable distortion. I can move the mirror around to lessen the effect but it is still there. Also I do not have a self dimming mirror.
New to the forum here and that "funhouse mirror" distortion is the exact issue I'm having with my new 2014 Soul+. Standard mirror, no electronic stuff.
Bergfinn and wadekind, did you end up taking it back to the dealer for a fix?
i noticed slight distortion that appears to make rear window appear larger when looking through mirror. I like it because when you look over your shoulder out the rear the window seems small to me.
The first Soul my wife test drove had a "blurry" rear view mirror according to her. She hasn't complained about the one we brought home, and I haven't noticed a problem. Maybe there was a bad production run.
Well now I have to go out in the morning and stare at my rearview mirror! Hopefully mine is fine, since I havn't noticed it after a wk of driving. Of course, I know I am not the most observant person.
So, I'm not the only one who had a distortion in my manual rearview mirror? I checked others at the dealer and they had it as well. It's especially noticeable when you switch to night mode. I resolved by purchasing an automatic dimming (electric) from jc whitney dot com for $31 including shipping (garage pro auto dimming). It fit perfectly and took less than 20 minutes to connect. I like the autodimming feature but didn't want to pay $200+ for one, so when I found this one I jumped. It works exactly like the stock one on my 2k4 Chevy. I hope that helps.
Thanks for the recommendation, Gasteed. Hubs had ours at the dealer this morning and the service person said he couldn't see ANY distortion. Uh huh, and I'm crazy. Sigh. May go the way of JC Whitney and change it up myself since I like the autodim and also did not want to pay the dealership's $$.
I definitely noticed the "funhouse mirror" distortion on the rearview when I got my Soul! I had driven Honda & Toyota and figured this is something that Kia does with their mirrors to increase the field of vision? I'm use to it now.
