So...I had some goods in the trunk area this evening and I wanted them hidden from "prying eyes"
At first I had covered them with something but it looked just like what it was, that being I was trying to hide something.
Then...pow-howyalikemenow, it hit me!
I slid the carpeted mat from underneath my items to put on top of them.
With the hatch closed it looked just like a parcel shelf from the outside.
It completely conformed to the trunks dimensions.
Can't believe it took 5 years of ownership to suddenly realize something so obvious.
Just wanted to share that with folks, who like myself, never thought of it!

Do you have tint on your back windows?

When you speak of using the existing cover, does it look something like this?

Once I got rid of that Mickey Mouse tire repair kit, that was under that cover, I had lots of room, for my entire Road Emergency Kit.
In the above picture, you only see the cover, that looks like the floor of the cargo area, however what you don't see is about $300 worth of: Full size spare, floor jack, torque wrench, air compressor, jumper cables and a 24' Tow Strap.

I do keep an umbrella on top of the cover, so if someone looks in, that's all they see, certainly not something worth stealing.

Good topic!

Great idea Srad.

My Gen 2 doesn't have a removable carpet back there.

I like what Honda has done with the new Civic hatchback. A reversible left-to-right (right-to-left) on-demand pull cover.
