Project thread: Fat Hamster

I will be posting all of the "in progress" pics of the Fat Hamster project here (Hood scook, spoiler, wide body kit). Finished photos will be in my main thread.

Cardboard mock up of hood scoop. I will be putting a spine down the center of the hood, and the scoops will be functional. I just wanted to get a general shape in person to see if I would even like what was in my head. Let me know what you think!

cool stuff man, while we are here,im installing veloster coils as we speak....how did you loosen the top strut nut without the it just endlessly turning? just not sure if it will mess something up if i just go ham on it.
Yeah that wasn't fun. So I ended up using an adjustable wrench (box end 19mm would have been better) and a 7mm wrench to hold the shock in place.

Also, break the torque with a long breaker bar. then once the shock starts turning swap to my previous post setup
Hood scoop mock up looks goofy. And I could never understand why someone would want to lower something like this. If you want something low to the ground, buy a sports car. Just my opinion.

While I can't speak for everyone that does this I can at least explain why I am doing all of this. I enjoy a challenge and want something unique. I didn't lower the car to make it faster in turns or anything, it was pretty much just for looks (although I will say that it has made it quite a bit more fun to drive). Honestly, I guess I just enjoy making people angry or confused. :)

Would you mind explaining a bit more as to why you think the scoop mock-up looks goofy? If it's how flat it is, it won't be that way when it's done. I didn't feel the need to get the cardboard to bend to match the curve of the hood, but the finished product will.

Too tall, too big. In Virginia with a hood scoop if you sit in the driver's seat and can't see the top of the right fender it won't pass state inspection. Don't know about other states. But if it makes you happy, that's what matters. You're the owner.

THAT.....I don't believe. Everything above it I totally get.

I don't know you, but you seem very bright and have quite a bit of talent. The tone of respect & curiousity comes through in your posts.

It's none of my business, but I think you do it to inspire & challenge yourself and others, not to make them angry and confused.

Looking forward to how this project evolves. Best of luck!

The only comment I have to to wonder if a scoop that gets wider at the back will be effective. The air is going to slow down once if gets in, rather than being accelerated as it would with a scoop that decreases in area as it goes back.

Aesthetically, the shape is your choice, natch. But make sure it does what you want as well. :D

You got me! Lol. I've just been getting a lot of hate from people when they found that I A) Bought a Kia Soul B) Modifying a Kia Soul C) Actually love the look of the 3rd gen Kia Souls.

Stay tuned! Progress will be slow going, but it will be sweet when it's done! We can do yours next if you'd like! ;)

Yes and no. But for this reason, I will be putting a channel down each nostril that keeps them the same size all the way to the back of the scoop that forces the air down to another channel under the hood that goes to the air filter. The hood is going to be incredibly heavy when it's done which is a shame, but it's not a race car. (the hood also will need to be widened by 3inches on each side as well to match the fenders)

That's totally fair. My goal was to try and make the shape match existing shapes on the car (the grill for example). The spoiler I design will have some shapes from the antenna, and the wide body itself will HOPEFULLY end up looking stock but bloated. Maybe I'll get a picture of a hamster eating a raptor or trex.

You do sound like you think outside the box. Keep us updated on your progress. And lots of pictures.

Fixed my bends. TRIED to fix the back (near the windshield) by welding on a new piece. The shape is correct but my welds... Well, it was my first time. lol. I'll get better and the ugliness I can fix. :3

Do you have any pictures of a side profile of the car further away with it being lowered? I've always thought a shaker-style hood would look cool on the soul after I found someone that did a mock-up of it online.

As funny as it may sound, I don't. The furthest pics I have are in my other post "TS's Turbo: mods and updates" (I think is what it was called). It looks great though! (Just take my word for it) ;)
