Just saw a news article on motor busicuit. A company called JDI DISTRIBUTOR has come up with a push start with immobilizer for key start soul. You can place it anywhere you want including where the ignition lock cylinder is located. I went to their website and they also sell a kill switch that is plug and play. They don't list the soul on the website but according to the news article they have come up with a system for kia. I'm in noway involved with the company. Just trying to help you guys out. Have no idea how much the push button kit costs you will have to research and maybe contact them to find out. To make it simple if you get their kit you will have an immobilizer on your Kia.

I think this is the article you're talking about. I'm going to wait for Kia to install the keyed immobilizer system in mine, but a secondary kill switch sounds interesting.

A woman in Ohio had an attempted theft of her Hyundai after having the factory update installed. Thieves were able to start the vehicle but just left it running after they couldn't get it out of her driveway. She said she can't drive it due to the damage to the steering column.

Yeah, I think thieves will keep trying to steal cars even with anti-theft deterrents. It's a nationwide epidemic.

I'd be worried more if I had a Ford F150, Civic, Accord or Camry. Those are the ticketed items for criminals despite what Action News Jackie & the media report.

That looks pretty good. If it’s really around $50 like hammerhead mentioned, that’s a great deal.

Yup.
Due to the tiktok,
Kias being joyrided and 'left for dead',
Good camera, tv exposure, story

Sooooo many other makes, models disappear entirely
As they are stolen for parts, resell and do not make good camera, tv exposure, story.

Like I said when I went to their website they didn't have a choice for kia. They did have a kill switch harness for 50 odd $ . If you can contact them I'm sure they can give you pricing. If mine didn't have an immobilizer I would definitely buy their stuff. Cheap for peace of mind.

$150 for the push button kit plus $25 for the optional switch to disable the push button kit is still a reasonable price.

But why is this necessary now that the Kia update is rolling out? I’ve heard people are getting past this update, but how? You have to use the fob to lock and unlock or the computer won’t start the car. How are they getting past that? 🤔

From reading the product descriptions seems the kill switch is only useful in the scenario where would be thief has the car owner's actual (JDi provided) RFID Key.

Or perhaps has cloned the (JDi provided) RFID Key.

My first thought is it wouldn't be necessary but...
Is everyone with turn-to-start getting the update, or only those vehicles with key fobs?

My car didn't come with / doesn't have the key fob system so if I'm not eligible for the update* then this JDi kit may be an alternative option.

* If the Hyundai/Kia update only operates with key fob, will Kia install the factory key fob system as part of the update??? Free of charge???

Wonder that too. User arming error - immobilizer design error/flaw - hack that has already been figured out and disseminated to the thieves???

Enquiring minds want to know.

The answer does seem to be a gray area. From the interview with a Kia spokesperson I posted in another thread he said "if you put a steel key in the ignition and turn to start" you'd get the immobilizer fix. He didn't mention anything about a key fob required. In fact it sounded like fob users wouldn't get the fix.

I finished watching the interview fairly positive our 2014 MT would qualify.

Checking the Kia Owners Portal (touted as the place for owners to get vital information) there isn't a single word mentioning the fix. How hard would it be, and reassuring to their customers, to post something there?

At about 1:15 he talks about steel key users
