As mentioned in our introductory post, our parent company who builds OEM product, and FormFit, our aftermarket line, has been focused primarily on two accessories; the hood protector and the side window visor. We are now starting to explore other accessories for certain models and have targeted the Kia Soul as one of those models. We are currently working on two accessories for the latest Soul model; an acrylic grill insert and abs louvres for the rear quarter windows.

Our prototype grill inserts have been done in three different configurations; a painted piece in body color, a chrome finish acrylic and a brushed aluminum finish acrylic. We have test-fitted all three pieces and while they all look good, we feel the chrome finished piece is more suitable to certain colors while the body-colored piece is suitable to other colors and the brushed aluminum on others. Obviously everyone has individual tastes so your preference may differ from ours. These parts simply attached with automotive grade 2-sided tape from 3M. Installation is a 2 minute process. These parts are thermoformed, meaning they start life as a flat piece of acrylic and are then heated and placed in a male/female mold to cool.

Our prototype quarter window louvers are made from black ABS. These somewhat emulate the quarter window louvers found on the 1965 Mustang Shelby GT350. These are vacuum formed and attach to the window with 2-sided tape. While they could be painted body color, we feel they look better left black. Again, tastes will vary.

These are two items we are working on but would love some feedback on what other accessories you, the owner/enthusiast, would like to see for your Soul. Bear in mind, our processes are somewhat limited to thermoforming and vacuum forming and, as such, our materials are somewhat limited to something that can be heated and bent or stretched. Having said that, we have good relationships with injection molders and extrusion molders so could always look at projects that require those processes.

Let us know what you think!

Here is a photo of the louver prototype...

Feedback? At this point we're using a product called haircell ABS. It's UV stable and easy to form. It is quite flexible but with 3M 2-sided tape holding it to the glass, it won't move. We're toying with cutting slots in them to allow some rearward vision but are pretty certain most people never look out this tiny window. The issue with cutting slots in them is the intrusion of water and all sorts of other debris. We'd prefer to keep things clean underneath.

...and of the grill insert.

We'd love some feedback on these as well. As mentioned above, the grill inserts could be available in any number of finishes. This one is clearly chrome. Some finishes would be the actual acrylic, i.e. chrome, brushed stainless. Others would be finished post-forming. If we include hydro-dipping, the possibilities become nearly endless.

would like to see something offered to dress up the holes...in my case, something in a chrome design, where the fog lites go for those like me who prefer not to add the fog lites...

Did the window louver ever go into production? Definitely would like to dress up those windows with a set.

Sorry for the delayed response. We got sidetracked with a big project and have devoted most of our resources to that. This project has been put on the back burner for a little while. We will get back to it as soon as we can, once our other project is complete.

Regards,
FormFit
