The 2011 Kia Soul Hamstar Special Edition has arrived. Gliding onto Kia showroom floors everywhere, bringing its funky styling, a cult following and a $21,000 price tag that includes a smooth 4 speed automatic transmission, the Soul Hamstar Special Edition continues to turn heads the same way it did when it landed at the 2010 SEMA show.
The is the sixth trip down Special Edition lane for the Kia Soul Hamstar. Funky and the Kia Soul are synonymous, and this 2011 Special Edition is no exception. This tricked out little beauty has millions of Youtube views for its commercials that feature cars, music and six foot tall hamsters. It even has its own hamster clothing line.

The 2011 Kia Soul Hamstar Special Edition lives up to its pop culture filled predecessors. This Molten Red head-turner has black matte stripes along the sides and sports a black hamster logo on the hood. More exterior style features include a power sun roof, some fog lights, a sporty spoiler and bumpers that match the color of the car’s body. The black fender vents and fuel cover are nice accents as well. It rides on 18-inch black alloy-wheels.
Looks aren’t everything, except when it comes to cars, but fear not. The Special Edition is sexy on the inside as well.
Unique, custom hamster floor mats provide a stylish look, while leather trimmed seats ensure comfort while cruising. The front seats are heated for extra help on chilly days.
The 2011 Special Edition features Smart Key push button starts, a leather wrapped shift knob and steering wheel, and also automatic climate control to keep you looking and feeling cool.
Music is a large part of the hamster scene, and the 2011 Hamstar Special Edition pays special attention to it. It sports an Audio Upgrade Package that has a subwoofer, a center speaker, and a 315 watt external amplifier that really gets this box bouncing. Speaker lights that pulse to keep time with the music are a great added touch.
In a world of cars that sometimes seem like the same old thing, the Soul Hamstar Special Edition brings style, funk, and fun to the dance. Fresh ideas combined with thoughtful designs make for a desirable package. The Special Edition won’t last forever as supplies are limited.
The 2011 Kia Hamstar Soul starts at $20.990 – including a $695 destination charge – which makes it most expensive model in the 2011 Soul crossover lineup. [Source: Kia]

Seriously, why would anyone want an overpriced 2011 Soul when the newer 2012 Soul is just around the corner?

I seriously think that KIA missed the boat on this one. Bet you that not too many of these will be sold in the U.S.:eek::eek::eek::eek:

Gotta say, the interior is sweet, but I really don't think this was a good idea. I think the Hamstars are cute and all, but I would never pay that much money for a Soul with a huge star on the hood that said Hamstar. I don't know, anyone else agree? A $19 shirt that says Hamstar, sure, that's cute. A over 19 G car that says Hamstar? Negative! Just saw one on our Kia Dealer's lot.

I saw this model at my dealership last week when I was purchasing the Forte Koup. It was rather unexciting, and I specifically remember thinking... "meh..." and then moving on to the next Soul down the line.

I think these Hamstar Souls are going to be the cheapest Souls to date. When nobody buys them, the Dealerships will HAVE no choice but to lower the price considerably

Yep! Take away the stickers and you're left with a nice looking Soul.

Those side stripes are just stoopid.

When I was out shopping for our Soul I saw both the hamster edition and the tiger one -- got to say both looked pretty cheesy. Some buggy wheels, purple window tint and a furry steering wheel cover would complete the look.

I saw on the lot today. Yep, would look much better without the stripes. But, I think it is still a pretty good deal considering the price and the equipment. 20 grand for heated leather seats, climate control, Smart key, sunroof, sport spoiler, upgraded stereo and Black 18's. And you can always say that you have one of the last special editions before the refresh. I dunno. Maybe they should ask us what we would want on the 1st SE for 2012.

I personally don't like this trend in specials. Kia do it in the UK too. There is a Soul 1 base model that nobody buys, a Soul 2 which represents pretty good value for money but then instead of a Soul 3 which would be a high spec model, they go straight into specials and it is a minefield. To get near the spec you want you have to put up with gareish facias or inane stickers so they inadvertantly restrict buyers instead of opening up a market to them. They have also got these facias upside down and instead of having dark colours near the windscreen they put the light colours up to cause a nice reflection on sunny days.

Going back to this Hamstar, I personally love the spec but this one at City Kia in Orlando has a sticker price of nearly $24K;

2011 hamstar soul!!!

I dont understand how this is a kia soul forum, yet everyone is hating on the hamstar edition. the comments about "no one is buying them," etc is not nice. I, personally, love the hamstar. and have been trying for the past week to find one! Luckily, Fuccilo Kia in Cape Coral, FL found one somewhere and ordered it for me! Its fun, its cute, and whatever--with or without the star--ok--but i love it!~ Owning a Soul altogether is a personal choice b/c let's face it--its not on the top list of cars to buy for the masses, but its a personality choice in and of itself. Im going from a $40K SUV to this, and i cant wait!!!

I'm not hating it. I think that Kia missed the boat on this one.. Offering a Soul like this for the that kind of $, this late in the game when the newer, BETTER 2012 Souls are going to be here very soon.

You can't understand why this is a Kia Soul Forum??? It IS a Kia Soul forum where everyone has an opinion, good or bad. ;) And because most of us own a Kia Soul :)

And it is true, no one is buying them like they are buying any of the other Soul Models!

lol.... good job you didnt say that at the recent meet.... you were rather outnumbered by specials and their gareish fascias and inane stickers..... seems to me that more people bought them than the standard ones..... more a case of opening the market up rather than restricting it.

I have one and I have to say I hated it when I first saw them on the lot. Then after two trips to the dealership to discuss options on existing Souls on the lot it was cheaper for me to buy the Hamstar SE than a Plus model with everything I wanted. On the upside I got Hamstar floormats, the keyless ignition (can't have remote start with a keyless ignition - dealership found that out after spending 3 hours trying to install it), foglights, sunroof, upgraded audio package (sans the underdash moodlighting - which KIA is not going to offer for the 2011's ever - but it will be back in 2012), sunroof and leather seats (really didn't care one way or another about them) that are solid black with the word Soul stitched in white. Whole thing cost me only 19K in the end. Considering a Plus model with everything I wanted was going to be almost 24K I think I did pretty good.
The dealership was willing to take the decals off but the more I looked at it the more I liked them and I figured what the heck is the point of buying a special edition if you can't tell on the outside that it's a special edition. From what I understand there will only be 1,200 of them and no dealership can have more than two of them to sell. My dealership had two - mine had only 7 miles on it when I bought it off the showroom floor and the other was on the lot and had over 25 on it in less than a week because everyone wanted to test drive it.
I get compliments about it all the time and people are always waving at us in it. I've had three other Soul owners pull up next to me and say that they wished they had mine. Saw the Ghost Tiger at the Dept. Motor Vehicles and parked in front of it. Tiger owner left a note saying Hi from one SE owner to another.

Around here they can't keep the Hamstar on the lot. I looked at the one the dealership had and liked it but my wife said "I (me) don't look like a Hamstar driver" but I just think she did not like it.
