..... Pricey? Maybe... but the only thing keeping you & your loved ones from impeding doom is four small contact patches on the pavement. What's that worth?
Precisely. (y)

Tires are like hiking shoes and boots or wading boots. It always pays off in the long run to buy quality. For comfort and safety.

Some of us buy used or buy inexpensive cars like the Soul because that means we have lots of cash leftover to buy the best 'boots', high quality synthetic motor oil, quality brake parts, etc.

I don’t consider myself cheap when I bought the Soul, just frugal. But if you stop and think about it, there is only about 1 square foot of surface contact on the road at any time. I’m very willing to spend the money on getting the best contact I can on that square foot.

The Kia Souls are not cheap. Not by a long shot. Simply less expensive than other options.

There are no 'cheap' new automobiles in North America. Look at the regulatory hurdles these auto companies must get past! US performance, safety and emissions regulations are just as or more demanding than anywhere else on the planet.

P.S. Frugality is a virtue that more of our fellow citizens should respect and value. Good risk management.

Preach on, brother! I've always said: it is not all about what you make; it is all about what you keep.

On the Seventh Day, God did not rest. God lifted up the corner of the earth and all the nuts rolled out to British Columbia.

British Columbia is full of bohemian characters: back to the landers, artists, performing artists, spiritual enlightenment seekers, etc. A few are rich. Many, perhaps most, live near the poverty line and live well. Really well.

Why? Because they know how to live.

All I can say is this; I was brought up by my parents to live within my income. Pay all your bills when they are due. If you can’t pay for it, you can’t buy It. The only acceptable debt is a mortgage, and pay that of as quick as possible. Always give money at least a 10th to the church and save at least the same amount, 10%,
my Charente were brought up the same way, and, I’m proud to say are living by the same rules.
