i have a 2011 soul, manual transmission.
there's no power at low rpm, 2200 rpm and lower.
once above that all is normal.
any thoughts?

also, when in neutral the engine revs up normally.
a little rough to begin but revs up well, in neutral.
and the check engine light is on.

Finding out might give you some direction.

Auto parts stores usually read the codes for free. Amazon sells inexpensive scanners that will at least be able to read/clear codes. This one was just on sale yesterday for under $20

Sounds like a vacuum leak, a small vacuum leak will affect the car at low rpm when the air flow is low much more than it will at higher rpm where it is probably hardly noticeable.

Also do some basic things like checking the air filter to see if it's dirty. If so, replace and eliminate that as a contributing issue.
