Yup - CR is a bit suspect in this household. I bought a Yaris in 2007, and later happened on their review. They hadn't even bothered to read the manual since they complained about no cupholders in the front, but bitched about the "coin holders" in the corners by the doors that could be shut, but let the coins fall out of the bottom. These were stow-away cup-holders that worked perfectly for their purpose, and were well-described in the manual.

Haven't trusted CR since...

I just checked the online version of CR via my public library and the only trouble point listed was a ration of 2 out of 5 for Transmission Major with an explanation of "Transmission rebuild or replacement, torque converter, clutch replacement." Without knowing which transmissions these are - manual, CVT, IVT, it's not possible to value the CR rating. Also, abuse can play a part as well like shifting into reverse before a vehicle has come to a complete stop while in drive.

If it has a torque converter, it isn't a manual....
