OK, this is easily going to sound like the dumbest question on this forum today. Nevertheless, I don't care ;)

I recently bought a foam organizer from a member. It's the big foam thing that goes under the fold-up "trunk" in the back cargo area.

I have a 2013 Base model Soul. The foam organizer appears to be in excellent shape. It should be - and is - self-evident how it's supposed to sit in the back trunk area. However, when I put it in, the passenger side is level with the trunk "shelf", but the driver's side sits about an inch higher. It seems obvious to me that the driver's side is supposed to be level with the trunk shelf as well, but it's not.

I cannot for the life of me figure out why. I took the organizer out and looked at it, and it looks to be even-thickness all the way across. The feet on the organizer are all in good shape. There's nothing under the floor - the panel that covers where the spare tire would be, if there was one - that is making the driver's side sit higher. And if you take the floor out altogether, the foam organizer has nothing solid to sit on, so that can't be right either.

The only thing I can come up with is that higher-end models that had the foam organizer had a different floor to set the organizer on top of. This seems highly unlikely to me, knowing how car companies usually use "one size fits all" on things like trunk covers, but I honestly can't figure out any other reason why this is. And I don't yet have the trunk cover, that goes on top of this, to see how it would work, but there's no question in my mind it's not supposed to sit like this.

Anyone have any ideas?

I have + but mine definitely sits flush to backseat on both side. It would help if you could post some pictures (layer by layer) of how your trunk area looks

I'd have to say, that a spare tire, a good jack and a lug wrench is much more valuable than a piece of foam. Eh?

Hey jd

The organizer sits on the sheet metal ,I believe if you take everything out of the trunk and put the organizer right on the sheet metal the top should be level. That's how mine came with the foam piece installed.

TechnoMage make a good point. I always thought that "Foam Thing" looked like something you kept under the bed to hold your shoes!!

you haven't told us what you have sitting in your wheel well - is it a full size or compact spare? Must have the compact spare to sit flat and it just sits on either side of the wheel well as mentioned above. Does these photos help?

Terrific feature and helps organize all that "crap" you seem to accumulate (and need) in your vehicle and keep it out of site.

Bingo - thanks Steve :) and conwel - that's exactly the info I needed. So I just need to store the bottom cover with this organizer in place. Got it.

You should have seen me scratching my head out in the parking lot today. Matter of fact, a guy pulls up and says "You look awfully perplexed - do you need some help?" :laughonfloor I kid you not.

I'm surprised the foam organizer can straddle the back opening and not collapse if something heavy is put on the lid. I wonder how it would do with several retaining wall blocks on top of it?

My exclaim came with the tire repair kit in the spare tire well, that probably supports the organizer.
It also couldn't hurt to put a piece of wood or at some point a compact spare tire and jack as conwelpic shows.

As for the retaining wall blocks, or anything real heavy, apiece of plywood would spread the load and protect the surface of the cover!

Gotta say, I do love my organizer. IF you do get that top cover, it's pretty slick. It's hinged in 3 pieces and you can lift up the end near to tail gate and reach in and access the trays without lifting the entire "floor" up. I keep all my stuff that I need quick access to in those trays.. camera, sunflower seeds, etc etc.

Baseball.... I watch A LOT of baseball. Up till this year, both my sons played first base. My eldest retired after last year, they were our states 2012 VFW State Champions. My 13yr is still playing, we are heading into regions as division champs and hopefully onto the state VFW tourney.

Here he is in blue doing his thing....

Sorry, can't help but brag about my boys, very proud of them.

Here. The tow hook is the one with the eye on one end and threads on the other. Like conwelpic said, it's actually an eye bolt.

Oh, I thought it was the thing wrapped in the blue rag shoved in the jack holder (which where I put mine). I guess that's just a rag?

actually your right, that's where the tow hook is located, but as I mentioned on the other thread there is a storage slot for it (thanks to Rick) now it can go in its proper location
