Sounds like a plan!
I've just permanently disabled the ISG on my Soul, so it's never a problem for me.

Let us know how your trip to the dealer turns out.

Welcome mumblemouth! I was curious does the grinding noise sound like its coming from the starter motor or the engine?

There is a "Discussion" thread on how to permanently turn off ISG. Sadly there is no button for it. I believe wedging a piece of paper between the switches ended up working the best (I know, I know).

Good luck at the dealer.

I've got the exact same issue(2020 Soul EX, 14500 kms). I spent quite a bit of time reproducing the issue and playing around with the car yesterday. It seems like the sound is coming from the left front brake. When you come to a halt and the engine stops, then you release your foot from the brake and the engine restarts, you get a grinding, sort of moaning noise that sounds like it's coming from the left front brake, almost like the brake isn't releasing completely immediately but rather comes off delayed, dragging momentarily until it completely releases, thereby causing the grinding/moaning noise as it's releasing. You only get this issue when using the ISG. If you switch the ISG off, it never occurs. The noise could be starter drag. I doubt if it's motor. It sounds and acts as if it's the left front brake. I'll be real interested in hearing what you find out from the dealer. Unfortunately, I can't get in to my local dealer until the 29th. I'll post what I learn after I get mine in to the dealer.

ok, got it back from dealer. 2020soulex, you were basically right. it was brakes. but didnt get 100 percent of answer on why. only thing i was told was, "for some reason when using the ISG, it caused a leak and air went into brake line. that was causing brakes to seize up when coming out of ISG which was the grinding." they wouldnt give me an answer on why it leaked, if it would occur again, why it doesnt do it on normal driving. only thing they put on service paper work was performed brake line bleed with KDS.

I'm glad you got the issue resolved and hope it's a permanent fix. I'll pass on the info to my dealer which should save them fumbling around in the dark. I'll post back when I get mine resolved.

That's too bad. Again, I'll be real interested in hearing how your dealer resolves the issue. I got an earlier appointment for my Soul, so it goes in Thursday. I may be in for the same ordeal you're going through.

Ok. Hopefully this helps you. They bled brakes again. Worked fine for an hour. Then noise started up again. They had a "kia specialist" come to dealership and check car. Said the ESL module is bad. Whatever hell that is. Said will take 3-5 days to get the part so in a rental till next week. Hopefully that can help you when you talk to your dealership

Are you sure they didn't say the ESC module. That's the Electronic Stability Control module. It connects to the braking hydraulic system. A failure in it could cause the brakes on one wheel to lock up or let air into the system if it failed in another way. That would explain your issue, I think.

OK, thanks for the reply mumblemouth. My car's been at the dealer all day and they've just called to say that with all their troubleshooting and back and forth with Kia, they've come to the conclusion that it needs a new hydraulics electronic control unit. They call it HECU. They've submitted that conclusion to Kia for approval. It appears these dealers can't take a dump anymore without getting Kia's approval first. They'll have to order the part. With any luck, I should have it installed late next week. I would expect that'll resolve the issue. I'll post back after the parts installed and I've had a few days to ensure the fix worked.

Unless it's a misprint. Paperwork says ESL module . I never heard of it either. It may be same thing. Kia may have just renamed it for their vehicle

I also have this same issue starting around 5000km/3000 Miles. I brought it in to the dealer last week and they serviced the brakes and of course that didn't fix it. I'm now driving with ISG off all the time.

I was going to bring it back this week for further investigation and diagnostics so I am really glad that I found this thread. It seems this is happening to a few folks and the resolutions are different ?

Please keep us posted on the results. I'm going to wait a bit before bring mine back to the dealer.

Thanks

update... my kia been at dealer since 16th. they said will be probably another 2 weeks till fixed. apparently this is a big problem that just came up. Kia didnt want to ship a replacement ESC module since they getting multiple reports of failures. so waiting for a updated one that kia will ship out in the next 7-10 day.
