I don't have a Soul yet, I want one really bad. I have two kids, a five year old, and a 9 month old. My concern is for their safety if the event a rear impact should happen. Am I just over analyzing? are they any less safe if I were to go with a Soul versus say an Optima? I did a search, but didn't find anything.

I haven't even test drove one yet, but the styling has me near obsessed. Room for two adults, two car seats, and groceries?

Well, it stands to reason that the greater the mass of your vehicle, the more impact the other vehicle will be forced to absorb, such that if you drove a tank your kids probably would come away scott-free in almost any accident. Since you can't legally drive a tank on the street, however, you're relegated to a passenger vehicle. I wouldn't feel unsafe having my kids in the back seat.

You guys are convincing me, now time for me to convince my wife.
Best way to convince any Soul doubter is to have them drive one. Almost impossible to resist. Naturally, I suggest a 2014/2015 Plus with Primo package, but an Exclaim with the Whole Shebang would be even harder to resist.

I get 6 or 7 bags of supermarket groceries in the back (behind the back seats)...with the cargo cover lid down over them. Even with two kids in car seats, there'd still be room to sneak some gallon containers of milk or water on the corner floor areas of the back seats, too.
The Soul has EXCELLENT crash safety ratings.

Better than asking here (nothing wrong with that) go to someplace that has all the crash tests. I bet the Soul does better including rear end crashes than some cars you think are better.

I can't stress enough the 2014 and up Souls are quality vehicles, interior, safety, features, how they feel driving, etc. (I have not driven an older model)
