Our 2015 solar yellow Soul is shedding clearcoat only on plastic parts. Around 2019 the wing started shedding, and now itʻs lost all itʻs clearcoat, and it looks fine. Very slight difference in albido but hardly noticable.
Now the door handles and mirrors are looking sunburned (in Kona, Hawaii not unusual).
How can I strip off the failing clearcoats and not destroy the surface color?

Don’t know if you can without damaging the base coat. But if you don’t repair the clear coat the unprotected paint isn’t going to hold up for long.

I used rattle cans from a company that matches the paint color with good luck. I used paintscratch dot com, but there are others. Sand the area to remove as much damaged clear as possible, spray some new color then spray new clear. It won’t have a showroom finish but it will keep it from getting worse. The mirrors and stuff you can take off so you won’t have to mask the car.

Watching a bunch of YouTube videos helped me a lot on how to do this and what grit sand papers to use.
