I'm going to buy a Soul. Trying to decide between these two that are available locally at similar prices ($13,500). The 2016 looks clean in the pictures. The 2019 was a fleet vehicle and has a small stain on the driver's seat. Going to look at them this morning.

Yeah, fleet use is a concern, though nerdwallet.com says fleet cars tend to be well maintained and are okay.

Kia Soul Problems suggests that the 2012-2016 are prone to engine failure, but that's based on a small number of voluntary reports to their website (just 10 for 2016), so doesn't seem valid. I'm going to check out consumer reports.

I don’t even believe that. The rentals I’ve had in the past were over due for oil changes (the most important maintenance for a GDI engine like the Soul) and when the cars in for maintenance, it’s not making the rental company any money. Even if it was religiously maintained, that doesn’t take into account how rough (some) people drive rentals.

car rental places like AVIS dont do oil changes until the car is getting sold , the car wash guys just add oil if needed , check tire pressure , clean car and it goes right back out for rent

no time for maintenance , and they get hard use by customers and also by the rental car lot guys , they often do donuts in the parking lot playing around after managers go home.

I'm also of the opinion of avoiding the fleet vehicle. Last time I had a rental, it was several thousand miles past the scheduled oil change and was over a quart low on oil. I told the manager and she said not to worry about it, if it died on me, they'd put me in something else! I drove it like I stole it because if they didn't give a crap, why should I?

since Fleet vehicles dont really get proper maintenance , depending on where you buy the car it could have over 30k miles on it before the oil gets changed before resale , the lot boys at car rentals also have drag races late at night during graveyard shifts at the airport.

Avoid the fleet one unless the Carfax shows consistent oil changes. I worked for the car sales division of Enterprise a couple of years ago and had access to all the preventative maintenance records. They skip oil changes often and some locations fix crash damage in house so that it isn't reported to Carfax.
