Or am I the 'lucky' first one.

And yes, when you need a new engine - you'll know it.

My Soul at just under 60k miles and my Sportage right around 42k miles. I've since traded in the Sportage for a Toyota Sienna. The Soul is gone if it needs another engine. I recently took it to Kia for the engine recall that I got notified of while my engine was being replaced. They said my tranny fluid needed changing. I said it was just done. They said nope. I said that is incorrect, have the receipt from AAMCO that says it was. Now I'm going to get my tranny fluid lab tested to see what they say. If it's old I'll go somewhere else besides AAMCO.
Many of those old Vega's had aluminum blocks....
Maybe pistons too. I thought Schlitz was in aluminum cans.
Don't think I ever tried the beer that made Milwaukee belch though.

Mine goes in for its EKG tomorrow. Keeping fingers crossed. :)

I've had my engine replaced twice so far in my 2012 and haven't taken in for the knock sensor yet.

My Soul has been sitting at the dealership for almost two weeks. Yes, it also needs a new engine. It had no symptoms of engine failure or any other issues, but it failed the testing.

I'm in the same situation, 2 weeks at the dealer ( did have oil consumption issues so I knew there was a problem before the recall test). Have they given you completion time estimate?
Just got my EX back with a new engine. So, about a 3 week process.

Always find a place that lets you watch the tranny fluid transfer take place. The watching part should include oil and coolant exchanges too.

The shop I use has a an exchange machine with clear hoses for the coolant and transmission fluid. I get to see the colors slowly change from old to new.

Find places that have it. Mine is a Valvoline sponsored oil change shop. Owner Basil lets customers watch just about every kind of work being performed.

I just left work and was a mile away, engine started knocking ( loud bang) and then it shut off. I costed to a safe place and when I looked at the engine block I noticed a hole. And had oil everywhere. I was very thankful the engine was cool, or I could have had a fire. He looked at it and claim that I did not change your oil on time. I let them know that I am a diesel mechanic, and use full synthetic oil. There was no way in the world that my being tardy on an oil change was the cause of engine failure. They offered an additional charge for them to dig further in the engine. After they dug into the engine, they saw that it was engine failure due to bad oil rings my engine, literally shot the piston out the side of the block. After five weeks or so waiting, finally got a new engine. I will be doing my first oil change on the new engine Wednesday.

My pistons swapped holes, don't know if that's good or bad. :p

New engine at 22,000 miles or so due to excessive oil consumption. Went through 2 x 1,000 mile tests as required, even though the car wasn't in the at-risk group. Dealer said "New engine - no doubts" and it was replaced. 8k miles later, no reportable issues - but fingers are still crossed. :)
