Or am I the 'lucky' first one.

And yes, when you need a new engine - you'll know it.

What symptoms did you have?

Took my 2020 Soul in today it passed all the tests, but it sure makes a lot of noise: ticking.
I'm getting a new engine. I was told they ordered it this past Monday (and was told I should have it back by the end of next week.) I tend to doubt it. We'll see.

Engine stalling after braking to a stop. As in, constant stalling
And yes, when you need a new engine - you'll know it.
I'm sure that's right.
Not in the club, but years ago sent a Chevy Vega to the junkyard with a hole in a piston around 50,000 miles.
As designed.

I think they were made from old Schlitz beer cans. :p

I got the letter and I'm taking the car to the dealer on Monday the 5th for the test.

@Devore: What exactly does this mean? "Engine stalling after breaking to a stop. As in, constant stalling ".

I have the issue where, if I stop at a light the engine will sort of stall, but not stall completely when I release the brake, it'll just make some noises. Is that what you mean by "Engine stalling"? Or does the engine completely stall in your case?
Stall usually means, it quits running altogether.
You are walking.

I'm guessing you really haven't read through the forum much. It's loaded with threads with folks telling their new engine stories.

So no, you aren't the "lucky" first one, or second, third or even special one. You can learn alot here if you put some effort in.

Best of luck with YOUR new engine.

That sounds like your ISG engaging. It’s a really annoying gas saving feature. There is a button to turn it off.

The car stalls out. Has to be put into park, and then restarted. And you'll know the car is wanting to stall out, since when it's bad - the car stalls out every time you stop. It was quite the adventure getting the car to the dealer. I'm lucky I didn't get rear ended or in some other sort of bad wreck. Oddly, the onset was very sudden.

I guess the advice is to schedule the service for the recall immediately. Of course, that's what I did, and it still wasn't fast enough. Kia should have got the recall notices out a few months earlier and maybe many of us would have avoided the thrill of driving our stalling dangerous lemon-mobiles to the dealer to get them fixed.

I'll check it out, but I'm a little confused since this is a new thing and I've had this car since June 2019. Maybe a recent software update reset something.
Thanks for the info.
Well, my problem was not the ISG as it was turned off - a bit more info below.

I took the Soul to the dealer today because of the recall notification. The test took half an hour and my car checked out OK. I asked the tech how many tests they have done and how many engines they have replaced, she said they have tested about 75 cars and have not had to replace any engines at all - good news I hope?

So, I asked her about my problem (when I let go of the brake the engine shudders as if choking but does not die) and she asked one of the mechanics. Evidently, it is something that has been reported "from time to time" but there is nothing they can do unless there is a warning light "Check Engine". They had checked the error codes but didn't see anything.

I got lucky with the engine thing but no dice for that nuisance issue. To be honest, this only comes up at odd times, not a constant issue at all. I did try to see if I could make it happen by switching from "Normal" to "Sport" modes but the issue is too sporadic to make much sense.

What about an old style
"Italian tuneup?"

You know, run it hard and fast and blow the cobwebs out.
If it breaks, you are still under warranty right? :D

Sounds dangerous to me. They need to find it and fix it

This is what the report had (for better or for worse):
Found no fault codes stored.
Condition is characteristic of dual clutch / IVT transmission.

I guess I'll wait and see.

Many of those old Vega's had aluminum blocks....
