I've had my Soul for 2 weeks now, and I love it.

But theres an annoying noise coming from the front passenger right side vent. Its kinda like a squeak, and it only happens while going over bumps, and never happens when its warm in the car. Only at night when its cool, or when the A/C is on. I can deal with the noise but its not very nice on a new car :(

Anyone have this? any ideas on what it could be? Or better yet do you think its covered under warranty :p

check your glove box to see if its closed tightly or anything inside the glove box that may cause "noise"? or even check your front passenger door storage bin for loose items. take it into dealer have have them remove the vent to see if there are any loose material(s).

My SOUL has had the quietest interior of any car I ever bought new. Instead of the dozen interior noises my old Ford Escort had when it was new, my SOUL has - one. Its one of those rapid ticky clicky rattles that shows up about once a week for a few minutes. If you touch anything on the left front or left rear door, it stops, until you take your hand off. Next trip, the noise is gone, for the next several days. So I suspect it is something in the driver's door. All this to say I know how irritating one clicky rattle can be! If I can ever recreate it when I'm not driving, I might can find it. I'm sure if I take it to the dealer it won't do it. But if yours starts doing it all the time, the dealer should be able to fix it under warranty.

Most likely it's the plastic shield inside the fender you can see with the door open. The plastic screws they use get loose easy and that panel starts to rattle. My dealer replaced the screws with metal ones and the rattle stopped.

Thanks for your input guys....The ticking noise is not doing it today. Perhap could it be that i took 15psi of air out of the tires .....(they had 50psi) i think hitting bumps was a bit of a shock to the car with all that air in the tires.

I have had an annoying noise like you describe- a rattle or squeak from - seemingly- the right side of the dash. About to drive me crazy. Shimmed this and pushed that and nothing helped. Then I found a thread- fairly old- on here that said that the guys there had isolated their noise to the area around the map light fixture in the roof- not a place where I thought my noise was coming from (but my wife did), but I started pushing and prodding things up there, finally pushing on the headliner just to the right of the map light area (last night) and the headliner made a small noise like adhesive sticking or velcro sticking together. I didn't get to test drive the car until today and I noticed no noise! I drove the car over the bumpiest roads in my neighborhood and no squeak/rattle. I'll keep testing it and let you know if this is the fix- I sure as hell hope so!

im bringing this thread back from the dead beacuse the noise is not only still happening, its getting worse.

The catch is, it now only happens 5 minutes or so after I start the engine cold, then it goes away. Ive driven around town all day at times, parking, coming back and it wont make the noise. Only if its been sitting long enough to let whatever it is to cool down.

Im thinking about taking it in now, but the only issue is my dealer wont hear the problem! The sound is coming from the front passenger right air vent for sure now. The sound is very easy to describe... its like 2 thin pieces of plastic getting slapped together over and over. I'e tried hitting the vent with my hand, taking everything out of the glove box, leaving the glove box door open, moving around the air vent etc etc, nothing works.

I dont know what to do :(

Take it to the dealer, show them exactly where the noise is coming from. Maybe have a passenger help identify the location of the noise by touching the vents etc. while your driving it. Otherwise you may have to leave it overnight or worse the wrong noise gets diagnosed if there is one. The dealer has insulating tape/felt etc.:)

maple seeds

I had a similar problem on my '10 !. It started about a month ago, and it was a really annoying clicking/rattling sound coming from the passenger side dash area. It usually started at about 35 mph and got worse while rounding a turn. After driving myself crazy by looking inside the car (I was convinced that it was originating from inside the vehicle), I finally got the notion to check the vents at the base of the windshield - outside of the car. It turns out that there were a few maple tree seeds stuck in the vents. I pulled them out, and the problem was instantly solved.
