Hey all,

I'm about 2 days from joining the Soul Owners club, however i'm having a little doubt in the honesty of my dealer.

I'm looking at the very basic 1.6L, manual soul - listed on the kia canada web site at $17,845, with $500 off this month with their deal thing brings it too 17,345. On that web site i can add $8000 down, 60 months at 0% says my monthly payments will be $170.20.

At the dealership today i was told that they could do 199.20 (shortly after i mentioned that i was looking at payments around $200). Which price is right? i've never bought a car from a dealership before, are they free to set their own prices, or should i demand the price shown on the Kia web site? any help appreciated.

I wont mention the dealership but i'm in Calgary.

thanks.

This is kind of wierd. I'm in Toronto and looked at Kia Canada's website. The car lists for $17,145. If I factor in your 8000 down-payment and the $500 refund I get a 60 month, 0% interest finance payment of $144.08.

I looked at Northland Kia's website in Calgary and they list at $18,745 (Internet price). The monthly payment is $171 but it does say estimated.

I picked up something on another (non-Kia) website relating to car costs and taxes making cars more expensive in Alberta compared to other Provinces, but these big disparities just don't look right.

Based on your figures $17,345 minus your $8000 downpayment with a $199.20 monthly payment over 60 months would mean the balance was $11,952. However, your balance is really $9,345....a disparity of $2,607.......that's HUGE:eek:

Illogical Captain........

........unless there's Provincial or Federal taxes and other new car costs that aren't factored in on these Internet site's calculations, but they will be standard for all the local Kia dealers, so the big disparities on end cost to you don't fly as far as I can see.

Be guarded. Point out these disparities and bargain with them. Be prepared to walk. They want your business...... and from what I'm hearing these base Souls don't sell as much as the 2.0 litre models...... so it's inventory they will want to move. You're putting down a big chunk of change here and you have a big lever.

We just bought a Soul 4u automatic with trick wheels and custom leather interior with ZERO downpayment and were still able to negotiate a great deal.

Good luck!

Martin & Thelma.

the $17,145 already includes the $500 allowance, 60 months at 0% = $152.42, or 48 months = $190.52.
vegster - don't forget you have to factor in taxes on top of these figures, check for your own financing which will give you a $2000 discount, perhaps that may work out less overall.

It states in the fine print at the bottom of the page of special offers
"Dealers are free to set individual prices".
A base 1.6L without a/c, I think a dealer would be anxious to move, surprised they even have one.

Forgot the 13% Canadian sales tax,
Add in Registration/Tags, about 500.00

17,345 + 500 ^ + Tax 2,254 = 20,099 - 8,000 = 12,099 financed

PMT = 201.61 @ 60 month @ 0% ........ So Your deal looks solid to me @ :D $199.20 :D

Does anyone know the rules for Ontarians buying new cars from Alberta to save 8% tax (HST minus GST) and then bringing them back to Ontario?
if you are resident of Ontario then you will be subject to the HST when you register the vehicle. It would be different if you lived in Alberta and then moved to Ontario.

When purchasing a car, keep in mind what you can afford to pay each month, but don't disclose to the dealer the amount. Allowing the dealer to sell you a vehicle based on monthly payment is ambiguous and benefits the dealer. "Only $200 a month" or whatever the amount, is what they will use to sell you the car, while "ignoring" the fact that they have extended your loan term or increased the required initial down payment.

Do the math yourself before you go in to negotiate, and bring in your numbers with you. Tell them you don't care about "monthly payment" and only care about the actual sales price, dealer fees, taxes, etc. Basically everything that is itemized on the final sales contract. If their numbers don't add up, pull out your documentation and ask them to clarify why their numbers don't match yours. That's when the $500 documentation fee, $500 cleaning fee, etc. start coming out of the woodwork, and you can get more of a complete analysis of the pricing.

And bottom line..... don't feel pressured to buy! The Soul you see on the lot is amazing, but remember, even if someone else buys it tomorrow, next week there will be another one just like it. Buying a car is a very emotional experience, so try to disconnect yourself and be as logical as possible when doing the "business" of buying a car. It always helps if you can have a family member or friend come along as a fresh pair of eyes, and as somebody who isn't emotionally "attached" to the Soul you want to buy.

It takes time to do your research, and you will spend more time negotiating, even maybe multiple trips (don't be afraid to walk out if they aren't willing to come down to your numbers) but it does work. I saved several thousand dollars on the purchase of my Soul.

I thought PDI was part of the delivery and destination charge. The block heater is $55.33 plus installation. Could be $0-$200 charge depending on what colour you select.

My dealer has had a lot of problems getting sufficient stock this year due to the high demand in the US and the fact they took 25% of Canada's production to help with the demand. I drove past his lot yesterday and he appears to have half dozen Soul's in stock at present. When I was in for service in mid-November one of sales guys told me that so far they have been unable to get a 1.6L for stock.

but using the build and price tool it already adds the 150 ish to the total price for certain colors.

I ''get'' the 399 admin fee , but would try to negotiate it out somehow .

so you think he's misinformed about the pdi ?and that it should already be represented by the freight/destination charge which appears on the build and price tools menu

I've gotten some online quotes for rav's and crv's and none of them had pdi as a seperate charge.
Had asked them to be very clear about every detail too so I wouldnt be surprised should I take them up on their offers.

the most souls I've ever seen at my local dealer was 3 , but lately they've had one at a time and are always the 2L 2U which is the trim that interests me .

dealers are free to set there own charges, its up to you to negotiate. Are you paying cash or trade? My dealer had a admin fee when I bought mine but no PDI charge, it didn't really matter what he charged I was more interested in what difference I had to pay.
Yes the build price will add any colour charge if selected. I used Car Cost Canada when I negotiated my last two deals.

Kia Canada's site will show you any deals they are running at present, they seem to change every month.
