2021 KIA SOUL OVERVIEW
All new for 2020, the 2021 Soul enters this model year as a carryover with only minor enhancements. The Soul GT-Line Turbo is simplified to Soul Turbo this year, which is inclusive of revised badging on the grille, steering wheel and rear lift gate. Remote start, previously only available as part of the UVO telematics system, is now also integrated on the key fob for EX and Turbo models. Rear Occupant Alert (door-logic type) is now standard across all variants. The X-Line and GT-Line 2.0-liter models with 18-inch wheels add standard RS valves to the shock absorbers for improved ride comfort.

Revised badging? Is this the long-awaited logo change or something else?

I don't think they're doing it yet. Sounds like they want to get rid of the GT Line v GT Line Turbo confusion.

Glad you can still get at least the LX without all the safety nannies. The safety package should just be optional on all lines. I wonder how many people would pay extra for them?

Very Good!

Have you seen the release vid on the new 2021 K5 Sedan?

Just what we need......another Sedan! Not!

Technically it's just the renamed Optima, which has been retired. What do you think of the looks FL?

I'm wondering with the Honda Element & Toyota Corolla Cross SUVs being introduced soon if the Gen3 Soul will be refreshed on a 3 year cycle this time? Seems like competition has returned after the Soul crushed them all 7 or so years ago.

The automatic transmission Soul exhibits better fuel efficiency than the standard transmission Soul. I have seen something similar for other vehicles.

Why? Once upon a time, a standard shift vehicle exhibited better fuel efficiency than the automatic transmission version of the same vehicle. If I recall correctly.

It is as if the AT does a better job at shifting gears than a driver using a standard shift. Any comment or explanation would be appreciated.

Over the years, I've beat dozens of MT's when I was driving an AT. No novice driver using an MT can beat a good AT.
I really like the IVT, when in manual mode it will shift at around 6200 rpm, the high spot on the horsepower curve.
And it shifts so fast, I know darn well it shifts faster than I can.
I'm not surprised that the IVT can get better mileage than the same car with an MT. The computer keeps it in the correct gear ratio for the speed and throttle position.
There are a few things I can do better than a computer, but shifting gears is not one of them. lol

Y'all have a great 4th!

It is as if the AT does a better job at shifting gears than a driver using a standard shift. Any comment or explanation would be appreciated.
I think that it's true westslope to a degree. The "better mileage" of the IVT, CVT, DCT & AT (did I leave any out?) with new engines is better in general as long as you drive them in an ECO type mode (that little button doesn't exist in the MT). They can shift more efficiently and save gas, but you have to let them do their job. Switch them to SPORT and drive "aggressively fun?" and the mileage goes down. The same can be true of MT, as some of our members have shown, they can hypemile and get significantly better mileage than the EPA estimate. Drive vanilla pudding style and save gas.

I did an unofficial "Fuelly" study awhile back to answer that very question, and it showed "real world" mileage for MT was still better. It surprised me because of all the new mileage claims being made by automakers.

Honestly the MT vs OTHERS mileage benefit is most often used in half-truth mode :D

yes up $1400 but now standard:
  • sunroof
  • Lane change assist
  • Blind Sport Collision Warning
  • Rear cross-traffic collision Avoidance Assist
The sunroof package was a $1900 option in 2020, which included the above features, in addition to the smart key and push button start. Kia increased the base price, but removed these two options, so in theory it is $500 less in 2021 than similarly equipped 2020.
