Two days ago I noticed a sudden loss of power in my 2018 Kia Soul Exclaim. I live in a hilly area and it was struggling to go up hills that it had never had a problem with before. Once I was on the highway, I had to floor it to get up to 65, and it was barely maintaining it. Then, after I backed off for a while, it was able to slowly get up to 75 without me flooring it, but it still wasn't the power I'm used to. The engine has also started racing, heading up to redline whenever I try to accelerate. Finally, there are two new noises. The engine overall sounds louder, almost like a small motorcycle but coming from the engine compartment rather than the exhaust, and there is a loud whirring/clicking that I've never noticed before.
Things I've checked:
Idle - runs perfectly smooth at idle, other than the loud whirring/clicking
Air filter : Looks good, < 3months old
OBD diagnostics: No codes at all
Catalytic converter: Still there, no exterior damage (they get stolen a lot where I live, so seemed like a good thing to check
Muffler/exhaust: Looks good, no obvious damage
Oil: full and clean looking, though it is time to get it changed
Coolant: Full and clean looking
Until this happened I had no problems with it. Any ideas for what to check next?
