I would like to install LED daytime running lights in the stock fog light location on a 2015 base Soul. Always on when the engine is running. Thx

Shouldn't be a problem. Get one of those $10 controllers (eBay, aliexpress, etc.) that will turn them on when the engine is on and dim them when the headlights are on, so they won't dazzle oncoming drivers. Finding something that will fit and look good is the harder part, I'm waiting delivery of some of those "eagle eye" ones that you'd drill a hole and mount in the hole (I want to see how bright they are before deciding if each side gets 1, 2, or 3). Hope Trump's China tariff doesn't screw up delivery.

I want to keep it super simple. Instead of the controller you mentioned could l just install a on/off switch?

Sure, but I'd say the controller was more simple to install (connects to battery, running lights, and 1 wire to headlight wires, don't do it to the instrument panel lights because on a Soul those are on whenever the car is running). $3 ppd from China, or $10 from eBay. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/DRL-Controller-Auto-Car-LED-Daytime-Running-Lights-Controller-Relay-Harness-Dimmer-On-Off-12-18V/32832257840.html?spm=2114.search0104.3.16.7f3a4a72vYU0dy&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_2_10152_10151_10065_10344_10130_10068_10324_10547_10342_10325_10546_10343_10340_10548_10341_10545_10696_10084_10083_10618_10307_10059_100031_10103_10624_10623_10622_10621_10620-10621,searchweb201603_50,ppcSwitch_5&algo_expid=00d9a7ce-a1ea-4590-90ad-a0bf659376f3-2&algo_pvid=00d9a7ce-a1ea-4590-90ad-a0bf659376f3&priceBeautifyAB=0
Your way, you're going to have to mount a switch in dash, and run wires to it. With the controller, it turns the lights on in the daytime, and dims them when you're using the headlights (and don't really need running lights), all untouched by human hands. I've tried this and it's easy and works well (but I didn't like the DRLs I bought, so am waiting delivery on a new set).

The only time aftermarket parts will void the warranty - is if your install of the part causes a failure. If you wire something wrong and it shorts out a system, it won't be a warranty repair.

If you are asking "will they void my engine warranty if I have aftermarket parts install". The short answer is no, it won't automatically void warranty.
