Hey Guys,

This is the process I went through to add cruise control to my 2014 base Soul with manual transmission. This has been a long journey but its finally paying off. One lesson learned was to never let the dealer discourage you. So below are the simple steps to follow to add cruise control in.

Step 1: Order the parts. All you need here is the physical cruise control switch and a new harness inside the steering wheel so that the cruise control switch can be plugged into the clock spring. Don't let the dealer tell you that you need anything else. The following part numbers are what I ordered. I'm not sure if these change for different colors, but if your current wheel looks like mine in the photos, these are the ones you need. It should be a little over $100. If they are charging much more than that, they may be ripping you off.

Part Numbers:
Steering wheel harness: 56190-B2400
Cruise Control Switch (Black): 96700-B2100ASB

Step 2:Remove the wheel. Unfortunately, to do this right the wheel needs to come off. First thing to come out is the airbag. There are 3 holes around the side of the wheel that allow access to the airbag release pins. You need a small screw drive to push on the release pins all the way around. After all the pins are released, the airbag slides out (no screws or bolts). Then you can disconnect the wiring going to the airbag. PLEASE DO THIS WITH THE BATTERY DISCONNECTED! With the airbag out of the way, unscrew the nut in the center of the wheel. Use a Sharpie to mark the wheel and steering shaft so that you can easily line the wheel back up when reinstalling (you don't want to have the wheel ****ed when you are driving straight). I was able to remove my wheel without a puller. If you are not using a puller, be very careful not to damage the threads on the shaft.

Step 3: Build the wheel. At this point, you will need to completely disassemble the back of the wheel. After removing the 6 or so screws, the black plastic cover should pop off. Remove the existing harness and install the new one plugging in the connections to all steering wheel switches. I highly recommend that you test it, at this point. All of the switches use the exact same plug. So if you mix them up your audio buttons will be setting the cruise control and Bluetooth could be changing channels. We don't want that. Install the new switch and reassemble to steering wheel.

Step 4: Reinstall the steering wheel. Be sure to line this up with the Sharpie markings you made in step 1. Tighten on the nut to the steering shaft. Make sure all plugs are fully seated into the clock spring. Reinstall the airbag. MAKE SURE THE BATTERY IS STILL DISCONNECTED. We don't want that thing going off on you. Once the airbag is plugged in and snapped into place, you are ready to enjoy your new cruise control.

I hope this helps everyone out there who really wanted this feature. I'm personally very happy. My local dealer wanted $699 for an aftermarket kit to be added. This was less than 1/5 the cost and gave me factory results.

Can you tell me exactly where to order these parts from?
Hi ann54246, I ordered mine from kiapartsnow.com

Total cost, like several other folks mentioned was $71 delivered.

If you need the 2 part numbers to order, billaz listed them in the very first post on this thread.

Best of luck!

Pics of my RedZone wheel

Here are a couple of pictures of the RedZone steering wheel (and you can see the cruise control) that I added to my 2014 Base M/T. I ordered the new wheel from Fourgreen.com for $113 shipped. It arrived with a small gouge on the outside left of the wheel (4-5mm). It is not a huge deal, but not mint. After requesting a new mint replacement from the company (I sent them a pic of the small damage) and asking for a return label, they told me they were going to send out the new one and I could just keep the damaged one! Since it will take another 3-4 weeks to get the new one, i put this one on and it looks nice! I will switch it out again since it was pretty easy to do (30 min).

Looking good.

Dude, awesome!

On a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being not much difference to 10 being amazing), how would you rate this compared to the stock steering wheel that comes on the MT Base?

Thanks for sharing your great work.
Awesome job. Not having cruise control was one of my regrets of buying the base model. Thanks for the how-to-do!
Geo, I would go about 8. Didn't go 10 because the stock wheel isn't the worst as far as base models go (better than my 08 Hyundai Accent that I put a cover on). The quality and feel (not to mention how cool the red threads look) is top notch.

We drove to Seattle today for a baseball game (about a 300 mile round trip... broke 1000 on the odo) and cruised in 6th at 72mph most of the way. Had to downshift to five on some of the steeper grades over the pass, but cruise is such a big deal for long trips (just ask anyone who has had a herniated disk and surgery like me... the leg pain when you have to keep foot on accelerator is terrible).

My keyless is set to be delivered Wednesday! I will then have cruise, keyless entry and the cool leather wheel for just under $200!!!
KC, giving your new steering wheel an 8 means that I need to get one too! I've never had a leather wrapped wheel, so thanks for sharing your impressions of it.

I can only imagine what your long ride to Seattle would have been like without cruise. Sounds like the trip was great & seeing the M's school Texas made it even better!

What is this keyless entry you speak of? Sounds interesting kc. Is it factory parts or 3rd party. Would love to hear the outcome of the install.

My next project is going to be the factory armrest. Then I'll tackle the steering wheel.

Best of luck with the keyless entry.
Geo, I am going off of the info in this thread in the DIY:

***2014 Base Soul Keyless Entry Install?***

I ordered the Ebay unit listed for about $12 and am going to use Calterm Quick Splice 18-14AWG connectors that I purchased at Fred Meyer for $6.99 (25 pc).

Go Mariners!!!
Just ordered parts for this too. billaz, you are my hero!
I got my replacement from Fourgreen today... perfect condition! Already installed. Definitely recommend fourgreen.com!

kcalk55,

Did you need any special tools to install the cruise control? Did any problems or issues pop up during the install? I'm not super handy when it comes to car repair/mods. Also, did you only order the two parts for the job from fourgreen.com?

MK,

I only used a phillips screwdriver (fairly small to pop the airbag/horn) and a socket (remove wheel). It is pretty simple, just follow the instructions and be careful. I actually ordered these from kiapartsnow.com. I ordered the steering wheel from fourgreen.

KC
21mm socket with an extension to get the steering wheel off. I (like most everyone else) was able to just bump/wiggle my wheel off. The point of the tool used to release the airbag can be used to press the small release on the back of individual wire harnesses.

I can't thank everyone enough for the previous instructions!

Just wanted to say that billaz for following through and documenting this.
Hat's off to you northern brother
Ok, stupid question. I've never owned a M/T with cruise control. What happens if you need to down shift while going up a hill? Does pushing in the clutch turn it off? Seems like if it doesn't your engine would rev up real high and fast

Not a stupid question at all. As soon as you touch the clutch it disengages the cruise control. If you feel like it needs to downshift, obviously you will have to do that yourself :)
just of interest for you US members, here's a 1.6L manual transmission model with all the features on the US auto model (steering wheel cruise control , 16" alloys, front armrest console, keyless entry, illuminated ignition switch) and also has heated front seats and sideview mirror signal repeaters. Comes from the factory this way - sorry but its only sold in Canada. :sneakiness:

Just out of curiosity, I called my local KIA dealer's parts department.
Steering wheel Harness = $84.95 + tax
Cruise Control Switch = $34.13 + tax
Special order items, requires prepayment, takes 4 days to get parts

Hey Stiltman, several of us who added cruise paid $71 (total/delivered) from kipartsnow.com. Took about the same 4 days (ships out of CA).

Even if you pay more for parts from your dealer (mine seems to double the price I can get online), the cruise is totally worth every cent.

Good luck!
As I mentioned way long ago I had the misfortune of needing to have a steering wheel puller for my steering wheel. It literally "popped off" the column. IMHO the scariest part of the whole thing which wasn't very scary was taking a bit of care to not break any plastic in the steering wheel assembly. I replaced the harness one connector at a time, unplugging the old and plugging the new connectors in turn.

Ordering direct online is going to probably be better than going through a dealer for these type parts.
