New here with a 2014 base, manual trans and looking to order parts. I ordered from the link on page one of this thread and I got an email stating parts are no longer available with no ETA. That's ridiculous.

Where are you guys ordering from?

Hello and welcome to the forum. If you could please review this thread, particularly item 1: http://www.kiasoulforums.com/4-new-...ers-guide-user-frequently-asked-question.html

As far as parts go, they are few and far between for the 2014s so far. There are many parts for the gen 1 though.

What are you after?

Thanks. I'm looking to order the two part numbers listed on the first post of this thread, which a few on here have ordered and installed successfully. I have a 2014, manual trans, base model as well. I am looking to add cruise just as described. I went to link on page one for KIA parts and was able to successfully order the parts for $71, but I got an email 24 hours later explaining they are no longer available...which can't possibly be true. Where have others ordered these two part numbers from?

The pipe line may be dry with all the good folks, like yourself, that are trying to add cruise to their machines. Right now most all the stuff is going to production so the pipeline may have to refill and that depends on Kia's production runs (or their suppliers runs) and may not have committed to replenish the stock yet. You may want to try your dealer but I am sure they will charge more.

Hi Tunes 12, I bought the cruise controller & harness 2 weeks ago from the link on page 1, no problem on supply then. Another site had them at about the same price. Try them kiapartsaccessories.com

Good Luck, the new cruise control is totally worth it!

Just wanted to thank you, Billaz, for getting the ball rolling on the cruise control issue. When I made the choice to buy the 2014 MT Soul, the ONLY thing I compromised on was cruise control. I hated that it didn't come installed, and worse, the dealer said it CANNOT be installed. I put mine in last weekend and wow, looks amazing and works flawlessly. I feel in appreciation to you the installation should be named "The Billaz Procedure." :)

Your instructions were great. I would add that my experience taking out the airbag is that the 3 pins did "pop" loose and the unit came out about one inch, but then I had to pull fairly hard to get it to come out. Freaked me out a little bit, but I wasn't going to quit. After that, just followed your instructions. The wires all had the same colors in the new harness as the old, so it was easy to tell where they plugged into.

One really great "side effect" I noticed after I reconnected the power (and reset the clock and the other settings you lose when you disconnect the power) that the annoying feature where the air conditioner turns on automatically ANY TIME you send air to the windshield, no longer does that. It's great. I complained to my salesman at the time I bought the car, but he said "you would obviously want the air conditioner on any time you send air to the windshield." Um, NO. There are plenty of times I want air flow to the glass and the floor of the cabin, but don't want refrigerated air blowing. I'm always having to turn the air off even though I didn't turn it on. Problem is now solved. I was wondering if anyone else noticed that?

They should not notice it because it isn't right. Your salesman seems to not really know his stuff, no should want the AC to come on automatically just because you selected the upper registers. I would say that it had a wrong bit set somewhere along the line and when you disconnected power it reset to the proper setting. In these newer computer controlled cars it is sometimes hard to get a straight answer. But remember CNTRL-ALT-DELETE is always a fall back position (done on a car by disconnecting the battery).

Thanks Shaggy, you're absolutely right, it seemed wrong from the get go. The salesman should have had an answer for the air turning on automatically when I selected an upper register, but blew me off saying it should "obviously be that way." Telling me to simply disconnect the battery for a few minutes would have impressed me, but instead he was just being slick, deflecting any questions with blah-blah answers. Really appreciate your thoughts and great work you do on this board!

Actually, and this is not to diss billazz who is probably a nice guy :D - we need people to do work on new versions of vehicles - but the procedure should be called the "msnider" procedure. MSnider was the first one to figure out that if you add a steering wheel with the controls, cruise works. Without that, no one, not even 2014 buyers, would have cruise control.

PS: Regarding the automatic AC, I would say you probably cleared a programming bit in the computer. Most new cars operate this way, including all of the ones I've bought in the last 10 years. I also find it annoying but, hey, life is all about being annoyed ;)

I vote for Billaz Procedure. The step by step process should be the name - not the concept.
My thanks too to Billaz!
:tongue-new: There wouldn't be any step-by-step process if not for MSnider. Further, billazz himself would tell you he went down this path through this thread: http://www.kiasoulforums.com/2-soul...-soul-manual-transmission-cruise-control.html , heavily coached by me :applause: .

Billazz seems like a pretty cool guy but I gotta look out for my homey MSnider

Hey Guys,

Just helped a friend do this install again last night. I just thought I would clarify on marking the steering wheel. I believe someone in a previous post mentioned there was an orientation dot for aligning the wheel. NOT TRUE. If you do not mark the wheel, it will go on any way from Tuesday. So unless you have a very trained eye to put it on the exact way you removed it, I recommend marking the wheel. My friend was actually replacing his base wheel with the redline edition, so it didn't matter. Looks great though.

I went out and looked at my (2013) wheel just to see if I could remember what I was talking about. I can't remember what was on the steering shaft, but there is a little "square" at the wheel splines that indicate exact 12PM on the wheel. I notice a small dot of white paint on my wheel, which probably means that I marked it against the steering shaft. So the "dot" I was referring to may have been the square on the wheel, I can't remember for sure now since it's been 1.5 years. I seem to remember a raised dot on the steering shaft that correlated to the indentation on the steering wheel, but it could have been my imagination. I'll have to look for a steering shaft picture now! And I have a 2013, so it may be different on the 2014.

Yes, the wheel will go on the shaft any way possible. That's why it makes the most sense to have the wheels straight ahead and the wheel centered at 12PM before taking it off the shaft. If you do get it wrong, however, it's a 10 minute job to make the correction. You'll just have to live with a crooked wheel until you make the correction :D

Billaz, that's a great idea putting a Redline (Red Zone) edition steering wheel on the 2014 Base. Add a set of Redline floor mats and a few other accessories & you're good to go!

Would you mind sharing where your friend purchased the wheel from, cost & if there were any complications putting that wheel on the Base version.

Really appreciate the valuable contributions you make to the forum. I'm enjoying CC on my Soul thanks to you & the "billaz procedure." :)

Went to my dealer to get parts, they were clueless as to if it was possible, so I showed them this article. They are willing to use my vehicle as the test subject to see if it is but for 2 hours worth of labor. So should I have them do it? And is there anybody in southwest or northeast Ohio that could do it for me? I've never had to pull a wheel off and I don't want to screw anything up.

There's nothing to it. You really can't screw anything up if you take your time. Pull the battery cable. Wait 5 minutes. Unscrew the airbag. Pull it out and disconnect the connectors. Unbolt the wheel (leave the nut on the last two threads or so). Unhook the audio connector plug. Make sure the wheel is in the 12 Oclock position. Put a dab of paint on the wheel and the steering shaft to mark the alignment. Pull on the wheel evenly from both sides. Take the nut off and take the wheel off. Put the new wheel on in the same relative position as the old wheel was. Do everything else in reverse.

If you're real nervous about it, 2 hours of labor sounds pretty cheap to have cruise control, even if it's 100 bucks an hour at the dealer. You couldn't get an aftermarket cruise installed for $200 in my opinion.
