A 2012 should have a timing chain and not a belt. Better post a pic of your motor so we can see for sure.
We haven't seen your engine, but timing belts usually aren't hanging out in the open available for casual inspection. And the ribs (I would call them teeth) go perpendicular to the edges of the belt. Thanks, it's definitely a rubber belt with lines on the inside going along the belt (running parallel to the edges of the belt), it's not metal... I wish.
I never replaced the spark plugs but that actually seems like it could be the root cause, I do use the cheapest gas for last several years (I used to go higher when it was new, but I realize, it doesn't make a difference).
I start without any trouble but someone on the forums stated that the car rumbles at red lights which is also what I'm experiencing.
I got a quote to replace both the belt and water pump for $1200 from a local mechanic... it would be $750 if I provide the parts... Can you direct me to the correct part# so that I can hope to save a little by getting the parts myself.
Unless this is a total rip off, I could check elsewhere, but this mechanic seemed trustworthy.
I'll check and do spark plugs as soon as i can and will consider the belt and water pump regardless since I'm getting close having to do that anyway...
Okay now we could narrow the point. I though that the rumble occurs while breaking down to 0 mph. Check the Transmission Mount and Roll-Rod on the bottom. This is common long-term issue for early 2010s Hyundai/Kia's small cars due to they reduce mounts from 4 to 3 with weak smaller mounts because of cost-down,My apologies, I did confuse the serpentine belt for the timing belt (or chain).
I'm glad to read that the 2012 uses a timing chain.
I don't see how the brake pads or the rotors would be the issue, they are in good condition and were changed in time... rumble happens when completely stopped and even when in Neutral without use of any brakes (flat surface).
I'll check again to be sure as well as the ball joints
Try the CRC intake GDI cleaner or get an induction cleaning done with sea foam. Sounds like the shaking is a rough idle. That will help.Hello,
My 2012 Kia Soul was purchased brand new and has been fairly good to me all these years. I too, took good care of it with car always garaged, Oil changes done before due dates and transmission fluid flushed and replaced as well and driving gently.
Living in Southern california, car has now close to 84K.
I drive it almost daily for short city commutes of 6 to 12 miles on average.
Car seems to be shaking more than usual when i come to a COMPLETE STOP at red lights, regardless if in NEUTRAL or in DRIVE.
Once the car starts rolling forward it goes away, but every time I am at a complete stop, it rattles.
I am obviously due for a timing belt service, which I have never done before.
The belt looks clean and perfectly fine, but I am not going to take a chance.
I am just wondering, is this a warning sign or is this something else?
I will not be able to do the timing belt for another 2 weeks so I am skeptical of the urgency and risk... And is it bad if it does break (is it interference engine or not?)
Again, no shaking while driving and car seems normal when moving, no other issues what s so over and no check engine lights.
Any thoughts?
