gears

I have a 2011 Soul and while driving at a slow speed or coasting through a lot, when I press the gas pedal again, I get a thunk like the gears in the transmission are slapping together. Anyone else have this and is it something that is Kia or is it something that should be looked at?

New to the forums, I have a question my friend has a 2013 Kia Soul. She says it seems like when she accelerates it doesn't have that umph and it's not properly switching gears? What might be the problem, have anyone experienced this? Thanks in advanced.
