Question for Max Tires on stock wheels ...Need help

    Hello All,

After reading everything I could find I know the 225 60 16s (26.6") will fit the soul and the new Exclaim with 235 45 18 (26.6") I believe a 235 60 16 (27.1") will squeeze in there. Only a 1/4" per side difference. Opinions please as I have found a nice set of BF Goodrich 235 60 16s Z Rated for a great deal.

    Thanks,

    Mark

If they will fit I would do it , The extra width will fill in the wheel wells nicely . I know the rolling resistance is greater on wider tires and it affects mileage . I think you should do it !
    Good Luck

My experience with numerous cars over the years is that going up one size (e.g. 235.60.16 replacing 225.60.16) has never been a problem. And this is with cars with less wheelwell space than a Soul.

I went from 195.65.15 to 215.60.15 on my 2013 base Soul with no problem.

A good tire dealer can tell you, or he will mount one and try it for fit.

Yes but I am thinking of going from a stock 205 60 16 (25.7") to 235 60 16 (27.1") a three step jump. The 225 60 16 is (26.6") and proven to fit. Just not sure I have the room to go another step. The 2014s and 2015s were also lowered 1/2" from the previous models.

235/60/16 is too much tire for that car! (I.M.H.O.)
Allocating for full suspension compression straight and while turning will surely yield some rubbing.
If you can live with that then it's on you.

A 225.55.16 is as big as I'd recommend. I was under the impression that stock was 225.60, my mistake.

One size above stock is easy-peezy. More fiddling and clearance issues appear, which if you've already paid for and worn in the tires will take most of the thrill out of having such big fatties on your wheels. There's also the issue of wheel width, and going 3-up is probably exceeding your wheel width tire recommendations.

There are safety, warranty, and liability concerns too.

Agree. What's the point? The payout, whether it is real or imagined, reaches diminishing returns. Slower acceleration, poorer braking distances, harder ride (greater unsprung weight), are some of the "benefits" of going to big fatty donuts.

Well, I am going to give it a try and if they don't work I will just sell them off. They are 1/2" taller than the Exclaim tires and after checking out the space needed on my car I think it will go. I did some photo editing to show how it should look. BF Goodrich G-Force Profiler 235-60-ZR16 Wish me luck.

    Luck.

Those are a new line? They don't show up at Tire Rack.

No not a new line but are a discontinued high end line. They are date coded 2013 and come from a warehouse and at $69 bucks each shipped it is a fantastic deal for tires of this caliper 65K wear out mileage so they should last. At that price point you can't even get the lowest price tires delivered. This model seems to have been popular in Europe. This guy must have bought a truckload of them from BF-Goodrich. We will see and if they don't work out I won't lose any money.

So you made a great deal on a tire that really doesn't/may not fit your car?
If you think 280.00 shipped was such a great deal you need to see the folks at Discount Tire Direct.
They could have given you the correct size or even plus sizes that WILL fit for an equally good deal or even better with their periodic specials.
Once you mount & use them, if even for a mile, they will be considered used and recouping $$$'s may be difficult.
The smooth move is to sell them while they are new and see D.T.D. for tires that you know will fit!
Anything more than an H rated tire on the soul is really overkill given it's use and it's capabilities, at least in stock trim.
While V,Z,W rated tires might impress your friends, it's really is more flash than function.
As the family truckster, I'm more concerned about overall ride and longevity than I am about a 180mph rating.
I also wonder how much these will suck come the next mass winter you encounter?
They look like a Florida or Arizona tire to me? (No snow!)
