That one only shows it's good on the 2.0t. I used to like the sound that my 2.0t Optima made after installing an Injen intake kit. Wasn't exactly as loud as a BOV, but still made a nice sound when it would bleed off excess pressure. Would probably sound weird emitting from a Soul, but would definitely get peoples' attention.

It's the first time I've ever heard the expression "Blow off valve".
In my one experience with a turbo charged engine, it was called a "Waste Gate" and made a nice little pop when I'd speed shift.

Another term that was new to me, was "Intercooler". Does the turbo charged Kia have one of those?

It may be integrated with the engine's cooling. I never really bothered to look at the 1.6t's setup when I had mine. The BOV is supposed to give the impression of performance, so much that someone decided to create a fake BOV noise generator https://www.amazon.com/Turbo-Electro.../dp/B00QF84ZJ8 I blame the Fast and the Furious generation.....

The BOV allows the turbo to continue to spool when you shift instead of the pressurized air slamming into the throttle body plate and immediately stopping thus increasing spoolup for the next gear. It has nothing to do with the waste gate.
It just happens to sound cool so people have made some that blow louder because they enjoy the sound.

I may be mistaken, but I was told that the 2.0t (and assuming the 1.6t) don't have a BOV (probably just something that functions similarly to a BOV). I understand they're pretty much like catch cans, good for added engine benefits, but not necessary.

The 2.0t and 1.6 both have blow off valves, they just don't vent to atmosphere, so you don't hear the whoosh. Most people run sound plates, and not blow off valves on the 2.0 and 1.6 as it's a lot more cost effective (less than $100 usually as opposed to over $300 for a real BOV). You can find them with a quick ebay/amazon search and I'm sure there are vendors on here that sell them. I use a sound plate, since I'm not going to build the engine enough to really benefit from a true BOV.

The 2.0t and 1.6t also both have intercoolers. Their job is to help cool the air that the turbo is forcing into the engine. Cooler air is more dense, therefore has more oxygen, so you can shove more fuel in and get more power.

Catch cans should be included on any gdi engine in my opinion. I was emptying mine about every 2000 miles on my optima. It catches a LOT of oil that would normally go through your intake and deposit on the back or your intake valves. I'll be adding 2 (one intake and one exhaust) to my soul in the next week or so.

My Engine-Bay shows the SOUL has the Perfect location for the
Turbo BOV Generator. There is already one threaded hole for the bracket.
Note: Also see the red Fuse wire in back of the battery making a
direct "switched" lead to the battery.
Note: The Turbo Emblem (Real Zink Dicast) is a Perfect firewall fit. Its like they New
it would be going in the Perfect placement above the BOV Generator.
Note: Also in the Pic is the Red Billet Washer & Stainless Screw Kit installed.

I use a HD On-Off Missile Arming Switch to make a direct connection to the Turbo BOV.
Note: The Fuse door is the Perfect place for locating switches. Lots of room
behind the door. I pealed off the Fuse Chart first, and laminated to keep it
behind the Fuse door if ever needed.

This how I CUT-BENT-LOCATED the Kit bracket to mount the Firing Micro Switch.
Note: Perfect place to locate. It is all out of way of foot traffic. I used two 1/2"
coarse thread sheet metal screws, with a small drilled lead hole. There is
    nothing behind this panel.

    Turbo blow off valve-1b.turbo.peddle.switch.jpg
Its plane to see the Firing Micro switch in action when floored. The gas
peddle has a Stop on the floor, and the switch is set to Fire when it hits the stop.

~ The Working Conclusion Statement ~
The "BOV" (blow-off-valve) works vary well, and is of the highest Quality.
I took it apart, and found a pretty intricate circuit board with two big condensers
on it that charge up to be unloaded through the ram speaker when the
Firing Micro Switch is activated. You snap the gas peddle to the floor for a
second (on-off) The engine Revs, the BOV blows off, just like a Real Turbo BOV.
