    Factory Recall

Sorry if there is already a thread on this. Searched but did not find. I have a 2015 1.6 manual trans, and just got a letter in the mail from the mother ship concerning a possible catalytic converter overheating issue. Let's discuss.

    Catalytic Converter overheating

I would like to keep this thread focused on this recall only if possible.

    What say you?

I am looking at the documents I got from Kia. I found a request for reimbursment form for
"SC176 - 2012-2016 MY SOUL ENGINE CONTROL UNIT (ECU) LOGIC UPGRADE"
The cover letter states that there is a defect that exists with the 1.6 gasoline direct injection (GDI) engine that way cause damage to the catalytic converter due to overheating, resulting in abnormal engine combustion and damage to the pistons.
"Kia will upgrade the Catalytic Overheating Protection (COP) logic in the ECU and if necessary replace the CC and/or engine at no cost to you."

Has anyone had dealer experience with this yet?

Thanks dbm. Yes, the SC176 is the one myself and several other members just had done. It's just a flash software upgrade to keep the cat from getting too hot and damaging itself and the engine.

I believe some folks have gotten a new cat because of previous heat damage.

Thank you for the info. My car runs perfect but I have noticed the floorboard being hot on my right leg while driving. Anybody else feel this extra heat? Did it go away with the upgrade and/or replacement?

I also received this recall notice and plan on having this done with my next oil change. I have a 2015 auto trans 1.6 I haven't have any problems as of now.

I have an appointment with my local dealer this coming Saturday am for a full synthetic oil change, and ECM update. They asked to have the car for 2 hours. Will report back here.
