    Brake Lights not working

When I hit my brakes, only the top brake light works. All my running, parking lights, reverse and turn signal lights work and light up when I turn them on. All 4 red bulbs work in the back, but wont light up brighter when I hit brakes.

Only fuse I saw was for LH and RH tail lamps... there’s one for brake lights, but I figure if that was blown the top one wouldn’t work either.

Is there a double filament in the brake lights and maybe just the running light filament is working?

Not sure what to do, before I go taking my lights off.

With upper working (high mount W5W or LED), fuse must be intact.
    What year is yours?
On 2019, upper two lights on each side (also W5W), are single element, bottom bulbs are dual element 2357 (P28/8W).

Could be the brake light actuator switch that completes the circuit when the pedal is pressed. Used to be near the brake pedal and moves when the pedal is depressed. Take a look and see if you see anything like that under the dash.

If the switch or fuse was bad, the middle light would not work either!

I think it's the bulbs themselves, they have two filaments, it's different filament for brake light (brighter).

Now, why they are both burned? Probably because you didn't pay attention when the first one burned out and you drove like that for a few months. And eventually the second one burned too, after all they are the same age.
Another common reason to burn the brake lights is to have a fault into the brake pedal (the soft plastic push button can break) and drive with the brake lights on all the time. They are not made for that and... it's also illegal.

It was the bulbs... it’s a 2012 Base, sorry. The tail lights looked like a PITA to take off, not the case. I replaced all 4 bulbs, two for brakes were double filament and I guess one filament blew in them. Back in business now. Thank you. 😎

Sonic... probably was more than a few months! I don’t drive this one usually. It’s my wife’s and we used it to go to FL. Someone told us about it in traffic. 🤪

I usually try to signal people that, by honking and pointing to lights... and get angry looks back.
    So it goes...

Assuming that the top bulbs were not burnt out, you could've just moved the bulbs from the top of the housing to the bottom and vice versa. It's the same bulb but Kia didn't wire the top socket for brake light illumination so that filament goes unused.
